The Mercury Meteor on the right is probably a 62, but the picture isn't clear enough to tell for sure. It could be a 63. The Falcon behind the 57 Dodge wagon is a 63. That Comet roofline was first used on the mid year 62 Futura 2 door sedan, but I believe those 62 1/2 models had vinyl tops. The roof line was adopted for all Falcon sedans for 63.

Great photos. Just think, someone looking at photos from today thirty years from now will see nothing but SUV's and mini-vans, none of the classic lines that were the thing that made those old wagons stand out.

Jim68, it's interesting that you cited it as a Meteor and not a Comet. My first reaction was that it was a Meteor, but I googled images for a 62 Meteor and couldn't find a one. What was the Meteor? Was there no Comet that year, or was the Meteor a model of it? Was it the Mercury version of the Fairlane?

Yes, the 62 and 63 Meteor was Mercury's first mid-size car sharing the same platform as the 62-65 Fairlane. The Meteor was offered only in 62 and 63. The 62 was available only as a 2 door post sedan or 4 door post sedan. In 63 a 2 door pillarless hardtop and wagon were added to the line. The Meteor was larger than a Comet and smaller than a Monterey.
