That's a new one on me - never knew they were shipped vertically. Might be telling that I don't think this was ever attempted before ......or since.

In #1353, the fourth car up looks to be a convertible. I think I'd be boggying on out of there before the bear realized he could claw that top to shreds in a matter of seconds, just like the reawakened deer did in Tommy Boy.
Also, in the same picture, that Plymouth wagon's brake lights are not on. That means one of two things; either the driver put it in park, eventhough he was in the traffic lane, and decided to wait until the bear moves, or decided to continue in his forward motion in the hopes the bear would get out of his way in time. I guess we'll never know which was his actual choice.

    ...or it's a 3-on-the-tree and he's ridin' the clutch.

Excellent point, Krash. I hadn't thought of that.

I also thought he may have come to a stop and had taken his foot off of the brake, but wasn't really rolling at the moment the pic was snapped.

And never in his wildest dreams did he think his action in that one moment would be discussed on a "forum" on a thing called the Internet 40 some years later.

OR.....Superman came down from the sky and saved both the bear & car by pulling on the rear bumper so that the car could be intact for a future station wagon forum. You'll notice Superman is on the rear, left side of the car. :D
