That's too bad, because I grew up in a Navy family, and we were able to make time and go.

Yea but I'm sure that dad was glad to sleep on the ground for a change. Those Army guys were already living in tents.:)

#12662 There's another one of those small red metal and glass shanties next to the depot. Must be a porta-potty.

    I read it all Tedy!:slap:
Well I read some of it.:rofl2:
We have five acres, more or less, as they say. It is 330' wide. At the rear there are metal markers at ground level on each rear corner and at the center. Survey markers. At both front corners are cement markers several inches in the ground. We got cheated. The county owns 20' beyond those markers. Don't step over the line. It's all mine!:yup:
I remember seeing similar but larger ones many places we've camped and wandered around. Some deep in the woods and on small mountains.

Dad was a Seabee....:D He had his share of sleeping on the ground...until the tent city went up. As quickly as possible.

It's true many people don't like camping in anything. Thats' why Holiday Inn, Motel 6, and others are so popular.
Sadly since my youth camping has gotten too popular and someone got the brainy idea to set up State, Federal parks, and public campgrounds so we must get reservations ahead of time.
I don't know about others, we never made any definate plans. Like our fore or five fathers, we stopped when it got dark or we found something interesting. Now they expect you to know where you will be two weeks or a year from now. To top this off, we've begged to stay in "full" campgrounds that were nearly empty because those people with reserved spots stayed home!:banghead3:
The reservation agents have no idea what the campgrounds look like yet tell you what site to stay on while they sit in a windowless office in Bangkoc. It ain't fun anymore.:(

I hear ya, Cat:mad:. I loved camping, I even got Deb into camping and she hated it before. The "must make reservations 15 years in advance" is what killed it for us. I can't count how many times we would come home on a Friday and have the "what should we do this weekend?" and next thing you know we were packed up, hit the grocery store and head up island for a camp site, setting up in the dark and only getting home Sunday in the dark, complete spur of the moment fun....... then reservations took over:mad:.... so you need to book 6 months in advance, you don't have a choice of what campsite anymore as they ishue you one and that's it. Bad weather the weekend you reserved so you don't want to go...shure, stay home but kiss your deposit goodbye.....................It's just not fun anymore.

Dad was gone most of the time, but we're both retired now. There were also "added challenges" in the 60s for us, if you know what I mean.

We have 4 old Suburbans...maybe we'll take them camping with us one of these days.
