    It's a "desert cooler". You fill it with water and the water slowly evaporates chilling the water in the bag so you hang it on the front of the car where it will get maximum air flow over it. It was a way to get a drink of cool water in hot weather.

    Yeah, I can't even look at the prices anymore. I just go to the place I know is cheapest and whistle nervously as I fill it up. Trying the whole time not to look at the pump and to force myself to think about something else.

    On a brighter note, I'm loving that two-door Falcon wagon at the pump!
