Several imported Mitsubishi-built Colt models can be seen inside the colorful Dodge exhibit. Dodge imported the Colt from Japan. In the left corner is a Colt 4-door station wagon. On the right is a rear view of a Colt 2-door. Under the "DODGE COLT" sign, sitting on a raised platform that rotated, is a Colt 2-door hardtop. Another sign states that the area is the "Colt Corral."

Several Colts were on display in the Dodge import and truck exhibit on the lower level of McCormick Place East. Dodge imported the Mitsubishi-built Colt from Japan. In the foreground is a four-door sedan on the left and a two-door hardtop on the right. Sitting on the raised platform is a four-door wagon. Portions of Dodge trucks can be glimpsed in the background.

In the foreground of the Chevrolet truck exhibit is the front of an El Camino car/pickup. On the right side is a specially-equipped Vega panel wagon, with custom vinyl-covered rear roof section. The overhead signage reads, "Value and economy started with Chevy Trucks a long time ago," and that "Chevrolet trucks are No. 1 in sales."

A custom version of the Vega 2-door Panel Express was part of the Chevrolet truck exhibit at the 1974 Chicago show. Based on General Motors H-body compact wagon, the one-off concept wore a black padded roof, rectangular opera window and luggage carrier.

What!? No Wagon in this picture?
So I couldn't resist a little 70's FORD crew cab love...

A bright red Ford F-350 (one-ton) four-door crew-cab pickup truck, and side view of an F-350 pickup truck with windowed camper top over its bed area were featured in the Ford truck exhibit on the lower level of McCormick Place East

And people say the Mustang II wasn't cool. :disagree:
(there is a Pinto wagon back there too)

The special Ford Mustang II Sportiva show car was center staged in the exhibit for the all-new 1974 Mustang II production models. The targa-styled Sportiva featured a removable roof panel and rear window. Body was painted white, with black accents, and the chrome wheels had bright yellow centers.

The Vega in #9558 with it's large padded top looks like a mini-hearse.
Also, I owned a 74 Mustang II coupe, my first new car...and first car. It was a very nice car with a well-appointed interior. I would have loved a t-top variant.

Those Mustang II's are greatly under appreciated IMHO. They suffered by being compared to the earlier muscle cars but they were a pretty decent sport coupe.

    hey, hey, hey

Had a Mustang II myself. A 74 with the four banger and three speed auto. Bullitt Green with a Butterscotch interior. This was when the car was about twenty years old. And, compared to the other tired, worn out, arthritic, rickety old cars I've owned--- it really wasn't that bad a car. While some Mustang fans were upset, because it was a "Pinto Mustang" and no longer a fire breathing dragon of a street racer,,, some Mustang fans were elated, as it had returned to, what they thought was it's original intended purpose,,, be a smaller cruiser to run about town in, with a friends in tow. My one complaint was the buttons on the seats. Kept ripping one end of the belt loops on my pants off... Had it happen to a few friends as well... Other than that, it was a pretty good car.:1st:

    1971 Chicago Auto show

Built along Lake Michigan in place of the ruins of the first McCormick Place, the new exposition center opened Jan. 3, 1971. Offering a total of more than 600,000 sq.ft. in the main exhibit area, the second McCormick Place served as the home for the Chicago Auto Show from 1971-1996. A record-setting 942,029 visitors during the nine-day 1971 run, saw the debut of the Ford Pinto hatchback, and Pontiac Ventura II compact. Also on display were the new Porsche 914, Lamborghini Espanda and Jensen Interceptor II sports cars.

Auto show chairman Richard V. Lynch, standing on the right, poses with two unidentified men and two woman on the show floor during a black-tie pre-show opening event at the new McCormick Place East. The four guests are ready to explore the show driving a three-wheeled electric cart with a large Buick logo decal on the front.

Looking due north from the roof of McCormick Place East, cars are lining up in the left lane of northbound Lake Shore Drive, to park in the large outdoor lot on the left. Soldier Field can be glimpsed behind the parking lot. People are walking toward the show on the right side of the photo.

Wide shot looks due south from a bridge over northbound Lake Shore Drive and into a parking lot between the north and southbound lanes. The lot is nearly filled to capacity, and the brand new McCormick Place East is seen off in the distance/center photo.

Ford's exhibit fills most of this overhead shot of the upper level at the new McCormick Place East. Notice the white Ford Tridon Thunderbird-based concept car slightly to the left of the center of this photo, seated on a raised/revolving platform with its driver's door open.

In the foreground of the 1971 Oldsmobile display space is a 3/4 front view of a Cutlass-based 4-4-2 convertible. Two Toronado two-door hardtops are directly behind the 4-4-2 convertible, one on a raised turntable. This would be the final season for the performance-oriented 4-4-2.

Specialty models dominate the foreground of this scene at the Chevrolet display space on the main floor. In the foreground, at left, is a side view of a Chevelle-based "Heavy Chevy" two-door hardtop, featuring special body stripes, SS hood with raised center and lock pins, black-painted grille, and rally wheels without trim rings. On the right is a portion of a "Rally Nova" coupe, black-painted grille, special body stripes, rally wheels minus trim rings, and heavy-duty suspension. In the center, farther back on a raised/revolving platform, is a Kingswood Estate wagon.
