The rooftop of the Case Hotel sign is absolutely huge.
The Herald Examiner Bldg. can be seen on the left in
this photo and the wagon can be seen crossing the intersection.

Rush Hour? I don't see anyone rushing

Rush hour, or should they call it slow hour somewhere near Sunset and Figueroa, Los Angeles, 1949
Well at least they'll have some reading material.

There was a period prior to and during the construction of L.A.'s freeways, when reversible lanes were used on major surface streets during rush hour.

While I love just seeing the cars, I am fascinated by the back-stories as well. So I vote for back-stories if anyone is so inclined to add them, but I will happily gaze at the scenes and the cars if the poster only wants to put up a picture.

I believe this is Philadelphia. That looks like a PTC trolley in the background. Forgive me if someone has already noted that. However, I am only up to page 76. Only 845 pages to go and I'll be caught up. I'm thinking January. 2015.

I want to say this is Woodland Avenue or Chester Avenue in Philadelphia PA. I get an eery sense of deja vu looking at it. Keep in mind this shot was definitely taken before I was even born. But I remember (because my grandfather used to have a set of old plates in his garage) that PA tags in the 50s and early 60s were black with gold lettering and trim or were deep blue (almost black) with gold lettering and trim. The PTC trolleys are once again a dead giveaway and the buildings really seem familiar to me, but I can't place it. It's a little haunting to me in a way. I grew up in Delaware County PA in the suburbs right outside the city, and I was frequently in South and West Philadelphia because I had a lot of relatives that lived there (grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins). Sadly, they have all since passed, or moved away and out of touch.

EDIT: 8/7/13: I downloaded and blew up the picture and saw that it was either the PTC Route 10 or Route 15, both ran on Lancaster Ave (U.S. 30, AKA the Lincoln Highway). Route 15 started at 63rd and Girard (a block away from my grandmother's house on Gross St.) and the 10 started at 62rd and Malvern. They both converged on Lancaster Avenue and ultimately ran to University City. I found some remaining 3 story brownstones on the 4300 block of Lancaster Avenue and it looks vaguely the same as this picture (Thank you Google Maps!).

    Huddle up everyone

The Huddle was a local institution, a classic '50s style restaurant. To orient current Angelinos,
this is in the San Gabriel Valley. Today. It closed in the early '70s the building was then remodeled
beyond recognition into a sporting goods superstore. In the '80s, it was turned into a T.G.I. Fridays,
    and it still might be.

Eastland Center mall, 1958. Ultra-modern back then. The May Company at the Eastland Center was knocked down some time in the late 1990s. A Target and Burlington Coat Factory now occupy the site.
