And then there's CLIMAX, ALABAMA next to rt 84, my short cut to and from Illinois. I guess it's all in how you look at it and what kind of mind you have.
Me, I have an innocent, kind mind. We have stopped off and on at the city limit signs, not far apart, and taken photos for years of Dollie.

How about the town on Rt 84? But now I think it's in Georgia rt84????? Between Bainbridge and Cairo.
I'm usually too busy driving to pay attention!

Hell, Michigan is where the G.M. Skyroof club holds their annual meet for the Sport Wagons and Vista Cruisers.

I've been there and back---many times!
Actually I believe I've been to all those large cities except Friendship, Maine.
What we used to do often in our worldly travels was try to get pictures in places like Sharpsville, Sharpsburg, and other Sharps. I remember the one in Pa and Tenn. There's even one down here near Titusville, Fl.

Thanks. Most of the towns with unusual names are usually just a dot in the road.
We've wanted to got to Maine for years. Just never seem to make it.

Friendship, Maine: Home of the Friendship Sloop, some of the most beautiful of the wooden work boats. Because of many different circumstances, very few original Friendships survive, and those that have are very comprehensively restored. I've always wanted to build a new Friendship but using high quality materials that will stand the test of time.

    Sail Acadia National Park

[IMG]Aboard a traditional Friendship Sloop... Maine's original lobster boat!!!
Downeast Friendship Sloop Charters offers a unique sailing experience aboard a Friendship Sloop- the original lobster boat! These sail powered vessels were built in Maine in the late 1800’s as working lobster boats and have remained popular because of their beauty and seaworthy nature. The Alice E. was built in 1899 and remains as the oldest working Friendship sloop today.
While visiting the Bar Harbor area, escape the crowds and enjoy the Quietside of Acadia National Park. We offer private charters and shared sails in some of the world’s best sailing grounds. Cruises depart several times each day from Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor, just 15 – 20 minutes from Bar Harbor.
Pitch in and help handle the sails or just sit back, relax and enjoying the spectacular coastline of Acadia National Park. No sailing experience is required.

    The Durham Silk Hosiery mill
By the 1950s, the company had taken the unfortunate step of removing the windows and bricking in the openings – not uncommonly done as a part of ‘modernizing’ (which seemed to involve an anti-window aesthetic for some reason). I would speculate that increasing automation led to fewer people on the mill floor as well, and when coupled with air conditioning/ac costs, bye-bye windows.

The Durham Silk Hosiery mill operated until 1969, when the plant shut down. The building stood on this corner until 1970, when it was demolished. Evidently, the building was so well-built, implosion of the building was unsuccessful and followed up by wrecking-ball demolition.
