    I scanned this quickly....did I miss a date that the crumple zones were introduced?? I believe that was the original question and I haven't found a specific time that the engineers initiated this safety factor.

    If there was, it should be noticable in the vehicle's construction. Here, a Ford and Chevy of equal age. While the basic set-up consisted of the body bolted to a frame, the Chevy's construction seemed somewhat weaker than the Ford's. Especially, at the A-support. The Ford's is not curved, which should be less likely to give into a rollover. The bottom pics do not give any indication that any measures were taken to protect the driver:

    Fox - the way I read this it was looking like 1958 and maybe Ford in 1957. But it wasn't clearly stated anywhere that I could see - just embedded in the whole thing.
