How did we ever drive on roads like those? Now we complain about a little pot hole .

Just loved seeing all those great old pictures even though I am probally old enough to have taken most of them.
What people don't seem to remember is that in the 50's and 60's the station wagon was the work horse of America. You didn't have the mini vans and pickup trucks like today. From picking up lumber and gardening supplies to loading it up for a night at the drive in.Just what I remember from growing up back then.

Pick-ups were around, it's just that Detroit wasn't marketing them to private individuals. Once they got the idea that they could put power steering, power brakes and automatic transmissions in them and sell them to the PUBLIC, the market took off. That's when the extended cabs and SUV's took off.

In the Midwest pick up trucks didn't get popular till the late 50's--early 60's. Then they were $2500 basic work horses with metal and rubber interiors. Rarely had a radio, a basic heater and defroster.
But at least they had real eight foot beds and real bumpers.
I remember the first Ford super cabs, not much more than room for little kids with a jump seat then a tiny skinny bench, in 1975. Got my first truck then. Some RV friends bought used RR quad cabs and other commercial four door trucks.
But there sure were a lot of station wagons around.

Is the power transmission line tower falling over, or was it built that way?

Built that way. Massive foundations built into the rock.

We had an entire thread on this pic a few years ago. We were all debating on the reason(s) for all the extra side moldings......
