Some ideas are indeed very ingenious. If you are travelling by car and caravan, you can save a lot of space by coupling the caravan to your station wagon and use the resulting accordion part for the beds. It was a prototype made in 1960 by the German company Fahti Fahrzeugbau, which was in business from 1957 until 1969. We don't know if the prototype was ever taken in production, as one drawback is that you need to remove the rear doors of the towing vehicle. But at least the end result looks very cozy. By the way, we think the towing vehicle is an Auto-Union 1000, but you may correct us if we have it wrong (photo collection editor).

Produced 1959-1981. Total 3179 units were produced. Its a step down from ZIL limousine. Its styling was copied from 1955-56 American Packard. It wasn’t available for regular people -- only for government. It was used by party officials, academics, vips, KGB etc. Nikita Khruchev prefered this Chaika over the one step up ZIL limousine.

This is the only known P76 station wagon in existence, and is owned by a collector from Sydney. Interestingly, for a low-budget effort, it used different rear door frames to the saloon version. The person who did this photoshop kinda overdid it on the door.

Looks like about 8" between the rear edge of the door and the wheel opening. Looks like there should be about 14"
