Heres a very cool website from Russia called Freedom Cars.

    http://freedomcars.ru/retro/oldamcar.shtml

(click on the link above and then scroll down to see the photos)

Apparently car enthusiats in Russia were on the lookout for the occasional American car that would turn up on the streets (probably brought over by Americans attached to the American Embassy or other US Government employees. Over the decades 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's, they amassed quite a collection of photos of all makes and models of American cars and have posted the photos to the website. And yes, there are American wagons when they were new or almost new among the photos. These are just a few of the wagons you'll see. You'll also see everything from Mustangs, Corvettes, Barracudas and Trans Ams, to big Buicks, Olds, and Chryslers, and even some trucks, as well as some long discontinued makes like Checker, Studebaker and Packard. Its worth a look.

In the "then and now" pictures the streets today look dead compared to the pictures of the past. The streets then had character, lots of businesses, buildings were open at the front with lots of windows and a feeling of vibrancy missing in the later pictures. It is nice to see the comparisons, sad for the most part how dull the streets and the cars have gotten over time, but good to compare.

    Or is it just me?

Is that a fire engine at the theater showing American Graffiti?

Or are they there trying to revive the audience after sitting through Woody Allen's movie Sleeper?
