    Thanks, Yeller. Pic looks like it was taken around '56-'57 maybe. My first memory of this stretch of road would have been around '58 or '59, as a kid going with my folks up to San Francisco from LA. As I remember the road, it was still 2 lanes each way, but with a much wider center divider.

    I think this winter I might just go look for that spot. It is gorgeous, and it does remind me of trips through that area 50 years ago. Where ever, it just brought forth a huge number of memories. There are so many places like this that I want to go back and find and see how they have changed, hopefully not too much. I know many will have been altered to a state of not even looking remotely like it did in my memories, but I'm sure a few are still fairly untouched. Great photos, really love this thread.

    It's still a beautiful area, and only a few more people than the 50's. Gets a little brown in the summer, but the overall climate and scenery can't be beat.

    My in-laws have a '59 Ford setting in the trees too... it's missing some parts tho.

    Same gas station and cars as in the picture above. But an odd vehicle in this photo is the British Ford Thames cab-over pickup truck in the background parked at the cafe.
