    When I was a kid, KFWB (AM) was a ROCK AND ROLL radio station. Used to listen to it at night. Great DJ's. Then FM radio got popular, and FM Rock took over. KFWB's ratings dropped like a lead balloon. So, they got out of the game, and switched to All News, All The Time, and they got pretty good at it.

    It depended on what FM frequencies in each market were available to buy or take on with FCC permission. For example, KJR-AM 950 in Seattle was, like KFWB, an AM rock & roll station. But when FM really hit it's stride, the parent of KJR was able to buy into 95.7 Mhz, and transfer their music operations to that station, and do all sports on the AM station. Now they dropped 950Khz, and put their sports on 95.7. Some stations were lucky, others not.
