Yeah, that definitely looks like the L.A. Basin...I had a late friend tell me just how bad smog could get back then.

I believe this is an outdoor scale diorama, and that Country Squire you're seeing is a 1:25 scale Franklin Mint diecast. Parts of the photo image may be 'real' in the background, like the trees and the drive-in theater. If you look close, you can see the edge of the board the model is sitting on, going across the picture - right at the lower edge of the front bumper.
