I saw a 300 sl not sure what year, Maybe 60? When I was waiting to pick up a part at the cool springs Mercedes dealer . It was sitting out in front of the bays waiting to be serviced. I was checking it out and one of the techs comes around the corner and says "careful that's a million dollar car." Really?! I said "even with all that mess leaking out of it?!" (It had a huge puddle of what looked like several different fluids underneath ) turns out a million would probably be a modest estimate? Even with the problems it was having.... and once again my smart mouth makes me look like a big jerk

 

Haha, that reminds me of the scene in "Kelley's Heroes" with Clint Eastwood, where Kelley (Eastwood), Oddball (Donald Southerland) and Big Joe (Telly Savalas) were talking to the German tank commander, letting him know that there was gold in the bank he was protecting: *Oddball* "You know what's in that bank man? There's sixteen million dollars worth of gold in that bank, sweetheart." *Big Joe* "That's sixty million marks." And the German's eyes get all big.

Research indicates that 300SL was painted by none other than Von Dutch. It was owned by a guy named Earle Bruce (old custom car guy, not the football coach).
