For a little historical perspective, here's the report on this incident:
    • 14 September 1960 - An airline maintenance inspector lost control of a Braniff International Airways Douglas DC-7 during a taxi test and crashed into the Braniff Operations and Maintenance Base hangar at high speed. The inspector died and five of the six mechanics aboard were injured. The aircraft brakes were set to bypass mode and braking action was not available when it was needed.

The flip side of the coin. A restaurant chain that's incredibly hard to find any images for at all, let alone here in Washington State. The top one is one of the original Indiana drive-ins; the bottom one is a semi-recent photo of one of the many cruise-ins that happens at the remaining Washington location in Issaquah, not far off of Interstate 90. Definitely a bunch of older longroofs down there.

As far as I can remember none of our local A&W drive-ins ever had cruise nights. Business was always good enough and people of all ages made regular stops. Actually when I was a kid we didn't call them cruise nites, we were there for the rootbeer and the wimmin!:bouncy:

Yes, it was. I remember going to see it with my family, driving from west L.A. into Hollywood to see it at the new Cinerama Dome theater.

I know a lot of them looked similar, but I'd like to think this is the one I remember over on Sepulveda Bl., south of Venice Bl. In Culver City. It's now a Carl's Jr.
