Yellerspirit - Do you have a location on this one? I see the name 'Capistrano' on the hotel, and the street looks vaguely familiar. Looks like the town of San Juan Capistrano in very southern Orange County California, circa 1963 or thereabouts.....cars appear to have Calif black plates with yellow digits, which would be correct for the time frame.

    car transporter

in photo 1495 I am guessing this a staged photo I really don't think they would transport cars with the roof down and all windows open

No kidding! That has to be one of the rarest sights ever! Same place, models, year, colours in reverse! The owners must've been as surprised as we are! :thumbs2:

My bet is that these 2 families traveled together and was a planned buy of those wagons.:yup:

That's cool. It's amazing how just swapping the colors totally changes the look of the car. They really look like two different models until you really study them... Wonder how my 442 would look white over gold...

As to the two Ford Country Sedans ('56's I believe), I wouldn't be surprised if it was a coincidence. These wagons sold pretty well back then, and it wouldn't be unthinkable for two of them to show up at a popular vacation spot at the same time.

Looks to be at the Grand Canyon. Left one from California? Can't tell the plate on the right one, which apparently is hauling some lead in the roof rack.......

One thing about this pic that amazed me right when I first saw it was the fact that people are on the OTHER side of the safety fence.
Secondly...are those wagons the same model....they don't appear to be exactly the same. Is that a shadow on the tail gate on the right hand one? Looks to be sculpted but I have never seen one that was. Does the one on the left have that side chrome trim? Not important...just curious as to model differences if any. By the way...I had a 56 Ford wagon and loved it. Never would start in the winter though.

I thought the far one had the window up.

Is that post in answer to mine, Norm? I don't understand the correlation. I'm saying that there is a shadow or something on the white tailgate of the right hand wagon that gives the appearance of the gate being designed with a sculpted area. I don't remember this ever being the case but it looks that way in the pic.
    EDIT:
OH! Got it. It's the shadow from the window being open. The bottom of the upper section is casting a shadow.

They both appear to be Country Sedans to me. The left one does have the wide chrome sid spear - it's just in shadow.
And yeah - the lady between the cars is on the wrong side of the safety rail. I will say that in my one trip visiting the GC, IIRC, I did do that myself. There are areas on the wrong side of the railing that have plenty of 'safety' room, but far better points to take pics. ( I'm not sure on this, though - it's something i wouldn't have been afraid to do, but Mrs. Krash may have gone nutso.....don't remember)
