Unless it is within 200-300 miles, I will not be making it. Funds do not allow for that kind of trip/vacation, not when my wife has not been back to her native country in almost 6 years. I keep telling her that we need to save up to make a trip back to the Philippines and for me to blow any of our saved money on a road trip is just evil. As for Wagonfest. We have all been told that it is for all wagons and all wagons, make and brand are welcome to attend. I for one would just love for "The Station Wagon Forum" to show up in strong numbers at Wagonfest 2010, to show the ImpalaSS guys that we are even tighter nit forum with better members and cooler cars! So there you have it, Fred said all wagons are welcome and the activities sound very appealing. If we do show up as a group, we need to all have window decals made up and suck to our wagons and all park together.
Oh, well, that's very different....Never mind. Well Fox, maybe today, I am playing Emily Litella! I remember how seeing the post of that little 6000 wagon get smashed, made me a little queasy. To me, that was Wagonfest! But, in retrospect, I was wrong to bring that unfortunate venue up, and color your impression of what looks like a pretty wonderful event. Given a larger picture of what Wagonfest is about, I see that it seems to be a great gathering of big, beautiful B-bodies, and the great people that are rightfully nuts about them. I am grateful to Clark for setting the record straight, and providing a much better evaluation of what Wagonfest really is about. Fox, I know you will investigate Wagonfest to see if it is for you. David
oh, i bet it is..... he wouldnt be the oldest one there though!... the guy that owns the red tricked out wagon with the surf board on the roof (which is actually an Olds CC ) , is ..i believe, almost 80 yrs young. this will be my first wagon fest. but my buddy mike has been going for 4 yrs and WILL NOT miss it! he is the one i have mentioned that has 3 Roady wagons and a caprice! (and i keep pestering him to sign up here).
I, too, would like to make a showing of our wagon family at the WF. I want to make up some of those clear plastic static stick banners (about 2 feet long and maybe 4 inches high) with Station Wagon Forum printed across them. Then, any show or event you go to you could just drop it across the top of your windshield while parked in the show. However, I think I will pass on WF for several reasons. Wix has back tracked a little on his post regarding the Derby but I have not. I don't want to be any part of a show/event that condones the annihilation of old cars or their parts. That Poncho 6000 looked cherry to me and Fred should be ashamed to have sponsored such a tragedy. I love old cars. I don't want to go and see them destroyed no matter how many nice wagons I may get to see.
Fox, I'm just glad you have more info on the event, and not just my viewpoint of it. However, that ugly derby carnage does tend to cast a pall over the otherwise beautiful event. David
It is not all that hard to get a new title, especially here in NY. Fred, being a dealer could have jumped through a few hoops and had one in as little as 2 weeks to a month. They destroyed it and laughed about it because it was "Only a 6000" not a B-Body. I told you all before and will say it again, I hate the IMPSS forum and their members for the most part. If its not a LT1 powered car with DONK wheels, its junk in their narrow minds!
Couldn't have said it better myself, wix. And I agree with your "only a 6000" point, as well, Blackie. I was looking forward to going to this event. Seems like a good wagon event even though it has been aimed primarily at B bodies in the past. But I am greatly disappointed that they would condone a derby. Count me out.
I do not think they had one last year, it was not held at Freds place, it was at a park instead. They had the derby out behind his place or something like that I believe. I do agree with you though Mike, I hate demos myself, eben though I have done a few several years back, they were all junk that would never see the road again and all reusable parts were pulled and sold or given to my buddy who runs a junkyard.
It saddens me that I won't be going. For the most part, because I was really looking forward to meeting up with Blackie, A1 and all the other attendees from the forum here. That's one thing that I was looking forward too. Maybe if I can get a Station Wagon Forum wagon event going as I have alluded to earlier in this thread we will, some day, ALL get together in one place with our wagons. That's one thing that would please me greatly before I kick the proverbial bucket.
We could have one in the Ohio/Indiana area, near Toledo or someplace. There has to be members from the eastern/central USA that could make that trip. Its about 4-5 hours for me or Ian and probably about the same for you Mike. I know if we set something up in stone, we could get more members to attend.
Again....there's no way to satisfy everyone as to location. It HAS to be more centrally located than that, Blackie. There are a lot of western members with nice wagons. I know that no matter where you locate it it will be a long way for some members. I would hope that, with work and dedication, we could make it THE wagon event of the year and, as such, would be something that even the farthest members would plan on every year. If you just went to that one event that had wagons from all over the country it would be something that would be worth planning and saving for. It is simply a must that it be centrally located to be fair for everyone. It makes it considerably more difficult and costly for me if I take it on as a reality but it just has to be a central location. I have named one that I believe to be a good choice and I would seek members from that area to help by meeting me there to pursue a spot. After that I would have to kick in my organizing, marketing and advertising skills to get it known and moving. We would need a good and large concessions draw...another reason for the central location. I would really like to do this. It could lead to my other idea of a central wagon house for and by the forum.
Dallas it is! Whew, that was easy. September sounds good. Just get it all together, and I'll be there! David
a few points... ...who cares if they blow up a car?...its entertaining to most....(most) I think were all being a tad judgemental 2nd....a wagon get together would be cool....could we do it in middle of the country??? 3rd...(i forget)....now i have to go read again....dam...
Clark, I never said I would not go to WF and I know exactly how far it is away from me. I said a Station Wagon Forum meet in the center of the country is a no go. 200-300 miles is as far as I am willing to travel for a car show, even if it is a one time event held by the forum. If its any farther then 300 miles at the most, count me out, not gonna happen.
If we had one...then your going.. ....I'll send ya all my empties to cash in that should get ya to Idaho
