I took my AIT at Fort Ord back in 1969. During our weeklong bivouac it got so cold that my canteen froze one nite, Then it turned to a cold rain, I snuck over the hill and discovered that we were right next to Laguna Seca. I purloined one of their straw bales and carried it back over the hill. I lined my foxhole with it and covered it with a makeshift tent using my poncho. I slept warm and comfy that nite, while everyone else was wet and miserable.
It wouldn't have mattered anyway, because the newer one got disqualified https://www.foxnews.com/sports/on-this-day-nascars-first-strictly-stock-race-took-place-in-1949
