That is an unusual roof treatment on that Nova, or is it just a shadow thrown by the overhead canape above the pumps?

 

Interesting observation. After looking at it again, I am betting that it's a shadow.

 

I agree - a shadow. At first, I didn't look at the pic that closely, and thought it strange that the roof would be painted that way. But with Jeff's suggestion of it being a shadow, I can see that the shadow extends beyond where the 'paint line' would be on the right side of the roof. You can see where the shadow ends coming toward the rear of the car by looking at the edge of the right quarter that's visible.
