The very first drive in diner in our town was a Sandy's. I believe it opened in 1956 just before I got my first car, a 1949 Dodge Coronet coupe. My uncle owned a pink and white '56 Ford like the one pictured on the highway. Sandy's was on the corner of the street we lived on and a main state route. Before that, there was a farm there where us kids got fruit off trees on our way to and from school. Another Sandy's was built on the south side of town, closer to where we lived after I married. Neither Sandy's lasted long. McDonalds, A & W, Dog-N-Suds, and others replaced them. Sandy's is now the location of Arbys, across from the little Shell station where our family went, and other places, all replaced by the constantly growing local hospital. The local drive-in movie theater at the edge of town is now a multiscreened indoor theater. The other drive-in movie, a used car lot.
