Vintage automobile factories

Sadly the plant is long closed and the only thing that would be on a table is you if you went down there at night. That plant was one of GM’s largest. They added on a huge portion for Corvette production in 1953. St.Louis, and Flint later on produced Corvettes exclusively till they moved to Kentucky in 1981. Pretty much by that time they moved a lot of the truck production to Texas. St. Louis also made light and medium duty trucks at that facility, along with the full size Chevrolet line. Oh well I’m sure folks in Flint, and Detroit can top those stories of woe.

 

Speaking of the St. Louis Plant. Not sure when they started Vettes at Flint.

 

Is the building still there?

 

Parts of it. A cheap office furniture maker bought parts of it, some got leveled, and some is sitting empty and decaying. Unfortunately there is a lot of that in St. Louis. The best use of an empty auto factory was the Dorris plant, a car made in St.Louis From 1907 to 1926 After several uses they opened lofts and retail space there. They used the grill and front end shapes to create a cement wall around parts of the building that was very cool. It is in the historic registry now and continues to be used for corporate and retail usage.

 

That's a bummer. Unfortunately it seems that is a pretty common occurrence.

 

Those red Opels look like life size AMT kits.

 

Those almost look like 1941 Oldsmobile’s. But it’s they also look Europe-ish too.
