The engine is slid off the input shaft. I've done several BY MYSELF over the years in the shop on customer's cars. So if you have assistance, it's easier, but not impossible to do at all.
I'm sure it is possible. I've just found it easier to pull the trans on a RWD car. I don't want to be fighting with trying to wiggle the clutch off of the input shaft and the engine mounts at the same time when removing it and I certainly don't want to have to deal with it while putting the engine back in. Easier for me to muscle the trans in and out in my opinion. FWD cars the manual transmission just comes out with the engine. I've never even bothered trying to separate them or mate them back up in the car.
Still, it's doable. FWD CARS, I simply drop the entire drivetrain out with great results. RWD cars, I put a jack with a block of wood under the trans to keep them straight. It is doable. Especially on an older car.
I might give it a try pulling the motor out while the tranny stays in on a jack and some wood. I got plenty. Always the car isn't gonna move anywhere. It can stay there. Might start on it in the middle of next week. I'll keep y'all posted.
sorry late reply. all freeze plug has been replace. it back together and running again. it was a pain in the butt to get the long headers and start out and back on. other than that the plugs were easy to replace. ive been starting up the car and drive it around a few blocks once a week. next step is to get the tri power setup in the beginning of next year in feb, '17. ill keep u posted
Red? Not my color but i have seen one same as my wagon in red. I rather leave it black. Maybe paint it gloss black or Satan black in the future. We'll see
I haven’t been on here for a long time I’ve decided to do an ls swap. 6.0 w/4l60e. Long headers Fits nicely in no cut or weld. Just need to remodified the trans crossmeber. it’s a slow progress
Oh, well, you can't win 'em all... Have you been following Vetteman61's LS swap into a Caprice? It's this thread: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/threads/fixing-up-a-71-grand-safari.19936/page-57 and begin with post #843. I know the two cars are not exactly the same, but he's had to climb some big hills to solve problems, and it may help you in the long run.
No I haven’t been following someone’s threads. I do research other places online. I’ll check out that threads though.
