I showed up to work this morning and much to my surprise there was a 62 Galaxie 500 sitting in the lot! It belongs to our truck driver. I told him he was holding out on me because I had no idea he owned a cool classic. It's an unrestored car with the exception of the Thunderbolt hood.

    Pretty slick.

What I find amusing is the fact that the pic could have been taken 50 years ago with only minor changes to the tractors looks being the major difference, maybe John Deere green or Sperry New Holland red/yellow.

As an aside, when I was restoring the 7 Litre I was tempted to pick up a glass teardrop hood for it. I still like the looks of them and it would be period correct for the car.

You're right kev. Though the wheels on the Fury would have probably been out of place 50 years ago too. The fellow who owns the Galaxie bought the car as is from the original owner. He told me the seller claims the hood is a period piece, not a recent reproduction. I suppose they were available in the aftermarket back then, but unless there is a manufacturers stamp or mark there's probably no way to know for certain. He did get the original hood with the car when he bought it.
Either way, it's still a pretty sweet ride.

Back when? If it was, I would have seen it.
You might want to ask him to pop the hood. Only through close examination, would it be possible to determine if it was production stamped that way or custom fabricated by some garage "artist"

It's possible the teardrop hood is original but I have to tell ya that I believe I see more of them now than I saw back in the day. It's like 396 optioned Chevelles and Stinger hood Corvettes, go to a car show today (we should be so lucky) and you could think they were standard.

That is funny! But what's funnier, is when I read that, I thought of the 1010-style trucks, and had to look at the pic.

You're right Marshall. The IH is a 67.

The hood is neat looking but isn’t the point to make room for a bigger motor?

Generally speaking you would have seen this hood factory equipped when the car was shipped as a factory racer with either the 427 High riser or SOHC engines.

It has a bigger motor. Came with a 352. Now has a 460.

He meant, factory-wise. Yes, if it had a 427-8V Hi-rise or 427 SOHC, IIRC, you could order the teardrop hood.

Ordered myself a little something the other day. I was pretty excited when I got the mail this evening when I got home.
