well, the wagons do look the same from the back, people, at least those who dont appriciate the vintage wagons just assume its all the same wagon...espescially since there are so few left.

    Common questions/comments about my wagon.

"Did you put on the wood sides?"

"Is that the same car as the Vacation movie car?"

    "Is that real wood?"

    "Is this a hearse?"

"Its the Vista Cruiser from that kids show set in the 70s?"

    "Is it hard to drive?"

"Man, that must be hard on gas"

Along what has been said already about people asking "Why don't you get a new car?" That question will get me all torqued up. My replies range a bit how it is stated how I feel about modern "sheeple movers".

"your life must suck to be a sheep"

"i like styling, integrity, and loyalty in my cars. In ten or so years you will be junking yours and I will be still driving mine"

"Once you can tell me how the internal combustion engine works, then you have my full attention."

Yea, I can be blunt and kinda mean. But when people become cross with me for the ownership of a vintage car, well I'm not gona put up with their "I'm better than you" mentality.

I have had almost everyone that talks to me tell me
"Oh my parents had one like that..."
    Other popular ones....
Hey, do you like that 70's show?
Is that your mom's car (that one irks me)
Why don't you buy a truck?
Why don't you buy a new car?
How do you park that thing?
Hey! It's the Brady Bunch car!!!
I got asked the other day...."Does it have an 8-track?"
And there's plenty more I just can't think of right now.

    the things that people say

I've had people call my 86 Mercury Colony Park "that Oldsmobiley looking thing"...I'm guessing they knew someone with a Custom Cruiser, and thought that only Olds made that kind of thing(and that that's why they went out of business)...And yes,I'll admit it,they all did look a lot alike from behind. What with all that trimming down and aerodynamics...I like those Electra woodies from the Eighties. If,when we ended up with the Colony Park, there'd been one of those for sale instead,we'd've gladly bought into it...I'm thinking people would be mistaking Buicks for Oldsmobiles though, not Buicks for Mercurys...I can tell the difference between Toyotas and Lexuses,it would be nice if "they" could return the favor.:yup:

Hell I do. I was called Red Forman at college from my blunt honesty and driving a 70s wagon

"Is that your mom's car (that one irks me)"
I used to drive a deep green '96 Lincoln Town Car, I was ALWAYS asked "Is that your dads/grandpas car?"

    "Does it have an 8-track?"
My '77 had one and my '78 has one now. I get asked all the time then followed by even a dumber comment "it must be hard to find new music on 8 track".

"Did you put on the wood sides?" - yes im amish, its what we do!

"Is that real wood?" - yes, do you know what it takes to make wood

HA HA HA HA, thats awesome, I will have to remember that!

    those questions and comments

I've had people ask if I was ever going to take the woodie off,and just paint the car one color:disagree:...Or maybe make where the woodie is a different color.Like big racing stripes:naughty:..."Does driving such a big car make you tired?" Only becaue the seats are so cumfy!;).."Have you ever thought about getting a min-van?" Heck no Geronimo!.."Have you ever thought about getting an SUV?" To be truthfull,,,YES!!! Which brings up two more questions' "What's a Grand Wagoneer?":49: and "Mercury makes a hybrid SUV?" And yes,Grand Wagoneers are stationwagons.Nissan Versas,no.;)

Wagoneers are definately wagons and I'm considering one! My best friend wants me to take the woodie off and put Camo there, or leave the woodie and paint the rest of the car Camo, which I obviously replied no to both.

I got another one that I got asked yesterday: "Do you have a lot of kids?" (I'm 18)

yeah, the wood vinyl is hard to find for my car, i thought for a moment ...painting the car satin black and putting diamond plate where the wood was. maybe when it comes time to strip the wood ill just go 50's style 2 tone

BTW, Jeep Grand Wagoneers are awsome....never a better 4x4 for the family. if you dont mind spending some money to get one ...look at wagonmasters they are pricey but they are as good as new.

Well, it's official. The Government wants your Wagon.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/GCA-BarackObama/idUSTRE5444LR20090505

Obama, lawmakers agree on "cash-for-clunkers" bill

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama and Democratic lawmakers reached agreement on Tuesday on proposed "cash-for-clunkers" legislation as part of a broader effort to fight climate change, lawmakers said.
Members of the Democratic-controlled Congress announced the accord after a White House meeting with Obama. Rep. John Dingell, a Michigan Democrat who attended the meeting, and other lawmakers from automaking states want the climate change bill to include a provision encouraging owners of less fuel-efficient cars to trade them in for cars that use less gasoline."

Time to hide your wagons in the garage, barn or storage shed. Buy up the wagons while you can, as the DEAR LEADERS of the country have deemed your project a "clunker" and will have it destroyed.

Well there goes the commodity market for metals. Landfills will see more old beer fridges and stoves, for sure.

You can't buy a new car without a job and a credit rating. Too little, too late.

I was listening to the radio a few weeks ago and a local classic rock radio station has a program in the morning called Bob and Tom. They had a comedian Greg Morton on, and he summed up the current financial crisis in a song. While it is halliarious, it is also very, very true.

I hate to admit it but this could be a good idea. The government will force no one to get rid of their cars. There are plenty unsafe, grossly polluting and poorly maintained vehicles for people to turn in. I'm all for it.

If you want to keep your wagon then do so. If you want to chuck the old Taurus running on 5 cylinders than do that too. I've got a perfectly crappy 86 thunderbird that I'd gladly give up and get $4,500 bucks towards a new car. You know that new Camaro is tempting. 305 hp and 29 mpg highway. No guzzler tax on that one. That's the base V6 with a six speed manual for under 23 grand. I could drive that Camaro for 10,000 miles and not pollute as much as I do with the Tbird.

    Cumon now. It's not a bad plan.

    Bottom line?

We need to gather up any politician that has served for one year or more and have them crushed.
