I was looking online, and the new section of highway between Mustang Ridge (just south of Austin) to Seguin (sit's on I-10, between San Antonio and Houston) is going to be 85mph. That's a 60-mile stretch....should be fun! :dancing:

Youstobee you put your guard up a bit when you noticed an older driver (one that might not react quick enough...) Nowadays it's the younger drivers I'm paying a bit more attention to.....

And I'm telling myself it's got nothing to do with the fact that some people would consider me being in that 'older category.....

Keep your shovel and broom handy!
Be exciting when a Smart Car and an oversized 18-wheeler meet.

These must be fairly lightly traveled roads?

I'm with Rev and 64 on this issue. If we could only get people to put their electronic stuff away when driving..............

There are really only two north/south major highways in Texas, I-35 to the west goes from Dallas to Waco to Austin, and San Antonio, and I-45 to the east goes from Dallas to Houston.

Both are getting more and more congested as more people move to the state. In the last 10 years they've built a bypass off I-35 around Austin, because during rush hour I-35 turns into a parking lot in Austin.

The latest plan is to make a spur off that bypass that goes 60-miles south of Austin to Seguin and hits I-10. From I-10 you can go west to San Antonio or east to Houston. I-10 is currently 75mph where it crosses Seguin, but is on the list to up to 80 soon.

Normally it's only about an hour's drive from Austin to San Antonio on I-35, which is a straight shot, but in the mornings and afternoons it can take up to two hours with traffic.

SO taking the new road adds about 20-miles to the Austin-San Antonio trip, BUT by making the speed limitv 85, they hope many drivers will take the longer route, so traffic on I-35 will be relieved. They are also hoping 18-wheelers shipping good to and from Mexico will take this route to further relieve congestion.

    That's the thought process.

Sounds like a good plan. That way they'll get the illegals and drugs over to Florda quicker.
