Today I got a call from the insurance company claims supervisor in response to my complaint.
She made nice, apologized for the delay, and promised to do better in the future.
An hour later I got a call from the total loss adjuster, who offered me $1700.00 to settle.
Then he said: "Thats my offer. Because you are also insured with our company, I'll give you some extra time in the rental car."
The upshot of our conversation is: "Take it or leave it, the rental ends 6/29."
Sounds like classic 'good cop bad cop' to me.
    :taz:
    Do they think I'm stupid?
    Stay tuned......

    Not surprised.......

Did the Total Loss adjuster say how he arrived at that amount, or just pull it out of his head (which must be mounted just above his legs...)?

You should get a copy of their T/L evaluation, so you can pick it apart. Have them send it via e-mail as a .PDF file, e-mail it to me and I'll help.

I've been following this thread loosely, I think this is the kind of debacle that caused the PO's of my '89 to give up and junk it.

I'm just glad everyone around here is too broke to drive an SUV, and you never see teenagers driving anything that gets less than 25MPG, so I'm good. King of the road, until someone in a lifted F-series comes along anyway.

Pine, I hope you get that tank fixed, she's a beauty, and they're becoming scarce!

I am one of about a dozen people in this valley that own a station wagon (Rear wheel drive, full sized, not counting front wheel drive newer ones), and about five of those wagons sit at one house (Not mine, unfortunately, 'cause they're all 80's custom cruisers! :D ), I'm not even counting the parts car, 1989 custom cruiser, I have.

Good luck, that car is worth, even wrecked, more than $1,700. What was that car worth before it was wrecked? $6,500? The good thing about the old body on frame cars is that the body can be straightened without making the car unsafe.

Please tell me the SUV they where driving was totaled, some uni-body piece of garbage? I hope so, that would be a hard lesson learned. In this state there is a law against cell phone usage while driving, the police would check to see if she was on the phone at the time of the accident, in which case, minor or not, she'd be in serious trouble.

The total loss adjuster left me a voice mail, he will assign an independent appraiser to look at my car.
The squeaky wheel FINALLY gets a little grease.
    And I squeak often.
    Usually politely.
I have told them repeatedly that all I want is my car fixed and a driver until it is.
The dance continues, and the rental car deadline has (apparently) disappeared for now.

I'm surprised they're doing this. Seems like the original appraiser got a good look at it, based on the work-up. It's the total loss adjuster that's not doing his job. A 'survey' with no comparable vehicles and only 2 bad 'quotes'?

Am independent damage appraiser isn't going to tell them any more information, unless they want him/her to do a value work-up (which would be unusual).

Yep. A value work up is exactly what they want.
I would have thought that Americas largest auto insurer would have their stuff a bit more together than I have seen thus far.
