That hornet is the best running car I have. It’s got a 232 straight 6. (I think) It’s actually my brothers poor neglected Amc. I’m gonna sell it to the neighbor for $2,000. Maybe I’ll tell my brother, maybe I won’t. Check my garage page. There’s a bunch of pics. It’s fun to drive. The original black leather interior makes you feel really cool. Until you pass a store front and see the reflection in the window. I love it. My calls it the Wayne’s world car. I have to tell her she’s actually close it being an Amc, but so far off at the same time. I’ll miss it for sure.
Frankly, if it's such a nice cruiser, drop in a Jeep 4.0 with a Mopar A999(?--I think that was the one used) with the EFI intact, and deepen the rear gears, do a bit of wheel well flaring, and some wide, lo-pro tires on 16- or 17-inch wheels.
Ya know when he first got it I looked at the motor and said the same thing. “It looks a lot like a Jeep 4.0. That would be cool” I also mentioned wider wheels as the wells are already kinda wide
Yeah, the 4.0 is the same architecture as the 232, but is all metric, IIRC. If you were to do that as an EFI project, I think it would be very cool to drive.
Those are common, over here. I think, they're assembled in Austria where Chryslers were. In fact, just a couple blocks from here, there's an entire Jeep just waiting to get parted out. The engine would be rather expensive to mail to Nashville, though. From here, that Hornet looks mint. Is it a '71? I'd only drop in a fuel injected 4 liter with headers and just leave the rest sleeper stock. Judging by the size of the tailpipe, I'm assuming it's an eight-banger. The disc brakes should be standard, on such vehicles
I like Jeep and jeep Cherokee. Only if they have that 4.0. The grand Cherokee to me is not so grand. I feel like they are cheaply made and not worth the money. I wouldn’t take a v8 from one of those things if it was free
The newer Grand Cherokees have the 4.7L and the 5.7L Hemi; older ones that had V8s had the 5.2/5.9 Magnum engines. Out of those four engines, i wouldn't use the 4.7 as a boat anchor. So, you could find a V8, and have a 75% chance that it's a Chrysler engine, not Jeep. And even a 318 EFI would wake that little sonofagun up, but still get decent highway mileage with an A999.
When Lee Iacocca went to Chrysler to save them from bankruptcy he told them they needed to buy Jeep, even if it meant buying AMC, so they did... The Cherokee and pickup truck Comanche line was ALL AMC designed... In the early 90's they realized their designed Dakota pick up truck wasn't selling well, consumers thought it was inferior to the Comanche pick up, so... they cut the throat of the Comanche in mid '93 production, selling them off as '92's... But as popular as the Cherokee was, the "smart" people at Chrysler decided to design a different more elegant line of SUV for the more discerning soccer mom, and came out with the Grand Cherokee... To me it was typical Chrysler, they listened to Iacocca but didn't LEARN from him, they bought AMC just to get Jeep, but instead of working with what they had, and learning to do it better, they cut their own throats almost immediately with killing off a better truck, and then sidelining the Cherokee for their own designed Grand Cherokee... Jeep enthusiasts will tell you the best Wranglers to get are the round light versions, Chrysler decided to meddle with that iconic line as well, and the square light Wranglers are some of the worst to own compared to their round light counterparts... one of the reasons Chrysler changed back to the iconic round headlights... ETA: They also talked for years about killing the Cherokee line, but the popularity of them they couldn't justify it, until finally in the early 2000's they pulled the plug, blaming it on EPA and safety regulations being the cause I do believe...
Wranglers have a strong following, unfortunatley there's idiots in every field, so there's people that buy the square light ones now, for what reason I don't know... is it because its almost an orphan in the design? is it because they fix the bad to good? who knows.
Well well well.... .http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/threads/1956-chrysler-windsor-trade-for-a-wagon.46211/
Ahhh let bygones be bygones. What we really want to know is what's the latest with the Poncho. You don't want JMT455 to get his road worthy before you do Grizz.
