Looks like we cant ship Poutine sauce to the US https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/de...e.-chocolates,-candies,-canned-goods-etc.)-as
Illegals can come in from everywhere else but we can't have a lousy can of beef gravy mix from Canada! If it is only ground beef and milk gravy it shoulds be easy to make. Are there any special spices or secret ingrediants? Now we're huingry! I've seen fries with gooey cheeze on them in restaurants in Florida.
Where can we in Canada ban the mailing of X-Mas Cake?.....seems thats more of a threat to landfills in Canada as the dumps are full of it from other provinces! I'm sure our US friends landfills have the X-Mas cake problem also..... but ya can't send a can of gravy.......OK, now I can understand the US governments reasoning....
Tedy, you're nuttier than a fruit cake...! No, wait. That's not what I meant to write. Fruit cakes should be outlawed in all countries! The mailing of fruit cakes should come with a warning, jail time, and stiff fines for the sender!
Sorry, you Americans are SOL...ner, ner, nanerner. You can't have it you government says so. Besides it's a top secret...like good back bacon and awesome beer eh! You hoser...
I just came back from Woody's. I decided it was time for me to head out there and sample their wares. It was all-you-can-eat rib night so it took a few racks of ribs for me to really form an opinion. I'd say you hit it right on the head PineBox. I was pleased with the ribs but everything else was pretty average. I could have done with a box or two of cornbread to take with me though. It's probably one of the best rib joints in these parts though, as sad as that might sound. I've scheduled another taste test for Friday to see if they hold up.
Let me get this straight. You only had a FEW racks of ribs. I will count that as maybe six racks and the other stuff was just fair. You were tempted to take home a few boxes of cornbread and you don't think the stuff is really good. Yet you are going back to sample----sample means a few bites--- more of it Friday! As a fellow Yelper I am confused by your judge of fine food. I'd hate to find out how much you'd eat if you actually liked all of Woody's foods. Hopefully you didn't sample their BBQ at each restaurant in J-ville that day. iIf so, you may be needing overloads and airshocks on your wagon.
Im no Yelper, those were just reviews that PineBox supplied a link to. We Canuckians don't have access to much in the way of good BBQ so even average BBQ is a big deal. Woodys is the 2nd BBQ joint to open here in the last year. Prior to that I had to wait until the yearly Rotary Ribfest competition to get some good ribs. It's unlikely that I would survive a trip where good BBQ was easily accessible. Their cornbread was really good, and I'm a cornbread junkie so I don't often find cornbread I don't like. I justnwish cornbread was easier to come by 'round these parts I never condemn a restaurant until at least 3 visits so while I really liked the ribs and thought the other items were average there are still a number of menu items that deserve my attention before I determine whether or not it's a place I'll frequent. I spoke with the manager at length about his smoker and their rib prepping process. He was very proud of his food and had no problem answering as many questions as I could ask. That alone deserves more of my business.
I reiterate, cornbread and milk. In Joplin over half the food joints here are BBQ places. None of them are really all that special. I tell you what. When Zoe and I finally get to have a wedding reception we will make you all good BBQ. She insists on catering it herself. She is a chef by the way.
The problem with most BBQ is that they BBQ some critters flesh. EEEEUUUUUUWWWWW You go in, you ask for some BBQ'd green/yellow/red peppers, some spuds with onions done in non-animal fat oil, some cauliflower and brown rice, and a good green salad and they look at you like you are from another planet. What's with that?
The night I was there the "Southern item of the day" was a Tomato Stew with Okra and it was pretty tasty. I suppose their were no guarantees on how it was prepared but I thought it was a decent option for those with no inclinations to tear into animals. Of course one item on the menu is hardly an alternative.
Lately there's a new, 'Haute Cuisine' ketchup here on the (EU) market from the USA: 'Country Ketchup' from Stonewall Kitchen. I eat it with almost everyting , but tastes best with BBQ IMHO.
For me, if it isn't Heinz (Canadian version) ketchup, its just red stuff in a bottle Not that I won't use it, but I prefer Heinz. I'll have to see if we get that brand here in Canada and give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation. My wife will have a heart attack when I suggest we try another brand (very small bottle).
