We don't need snow tires. Or shoes.

    Here's our forcast:

Beautiful spring-like weather will prevail over the Indian Wells Valley through Friday as high pressure becomes the dominant feature through our weather week. Late Wednesday and early Thursday a minor, fast-moving high level perturbation will move across southern California, however, this system is forecast to be dry, remain in the upper levels and have little effect on our surface weather. Temperatures under our persistent high pressure will rise from the mid 60s today to the mid 70s by Friday with generally light winds and fair skies.

Ha Ha. I'll have to look up "perturbation". It sounds a little nasty. I wonder if it's a word we can use here....

He's pretty bilingual. I was thinking of the French equivalent. It's not as mild. :D (y)

those vids were infomative. but if what i'm driving feels loose i just slow down. speed is the reel factor in driving in rain, snow, ice or any time. you shouldn't over drive the conditions. i've seen to many 4 wheel drives fly past me in the snow only to run into trouble down the road because of aragance and over confidence. to me the more they make cars/truck safer with abs, air bags, all wheel drive, traction control and etc. the mor confident and reckless people become. if everybody drove like they were tied to the front bumper there would be fewer accidents.

I like that expression of yours "if everybody drove like they were tied to the front bumper there would be fewer accidents". It should be a Bumper Sticker. (y)

I think they add all that other stuff so they can use less framing, but they're adding so much of it, that the cars weigh more.

My Fairmont Squire Wagon officially weighed 2,645 lbs. in 1979 (on the VIN plate). The 1985 Mercury Marquis 4-door sedan (same Fox Sheetmetal) weighed 3,300 lbs. Mine has a 20 gal tank, just like the 1985, and had a 302-V8, the 1985 had a 4.6 V8. Where's the added value, in terms of safety? The fuel economy went for crap too, thanks to the added weight. :banghead3:

Interesting that my 82 Cougar (same Fox sheetmetal) weighs in at 3200 lbs with the 200 six. I do have a/c and a 16 gallon tank. I wonder where the extra bloat is compared to your Fairmont.

More plastic in the doors (full panels up to the glass). Stainless steel bumpers. Stainless exhaust. More pollution controls. Even your steering wheel. Maybe more insulation/sound deadening stuff.

some safty things i like. daytime running lights for one, but 6+ air bags are no match for 5 point harness and a good roll cage.

I was just reading on a Safety site that they use CO2 in the airbags!

Our national public TV had a show on Sunday showing two Pro Drivers driving the same peak-traffic route from the Studio, all around the main Highways and back. These are 60 MPH 4 to 6 lane roads. The top speed was 29 MPH (57 KMH) and that driver made 47 lane changes. The other driver made 16 lane changes and got to a top speed of 26 MPH (52 KMH) and was only 4 minutes behind.

I'm almost done restoring my wagon, but I really want to hook up all those annoying seatbelt buzzers, and I added them to the back seat belts too. I won't move the car until every body is hooked up. We have this 84 year old neighbour who always squawks when we take her shopping because I'm anal about it. After driving Fuellers in the 60's, no way! :biglaugh:
