So, it has been decided that the Red portion of the 59 needs to be repainted. We decided to do some interior work as well, and it snowballed to the point where we had the interior shop pull everything out so that the dash and interior bits can be repainted at the same time. The car was running rough, and we pinpointed the carb as the culprit. We swapped carbs and now she runs like a champ. I was tasked with taking the car to the interior shop, and it was a beautiful day so I figured I might as well put the top down. First pic is leaving for the interior shop Second is sans interior, being dropped off at the paint shop.
It's been repainted at least twice before. The white is actually in really good shape, but the red is not. So the red is being redone. Once that's finished, the interior will go back in, new top will be installed and it will be off to cruising for ice cream.
It is a beautiful car for sure. That would be awesome indeed. I think Breadbox lives quite a ways away though.
I know it's been a while since anything was added to this thread, so I thought I would bring it up to date a bit. Along the way to getting the Red on the car repainted it was discovered there was more rust than originally thought and that there had been some shade tree body work performed. Even though the white looked good it was likely hiding stuff as well. So, my Father-in-law was convinced to paint the entire car. It turned a quick partial resray into a full on tear down, repair and repaint. All of the trim and chrome was sent off to be straightened and polished and all of the shade tree body work was addressed. The interior is going to be completely redone (as mentioned earlier) and the top will be replaced. I don't have any photos of it in the body work phase, but here are some of it in the paint booth from this weekend The red is done and masked off and the white is about to be applied.
I stopped by the shop this afternoon and he had the white on and had removed the masking. Even though it's a cramped little booth and hard to get a good picture of the entire car, from what I can see I think it looks amazing. He said "if you think it looks good now, wait until I buff it out"
It looked like a pretty good example in 'before' condition. I can just imagine what it's going to look like when done!
This just proves no matter how nice a car looks it may need improvements. I love that car. Now let's stop at the Dairy Queen for ice cream.
We're pretty excited. It's going to be a show stopper for certain once it's all put back together. Of course at this rate it'll be done when it's still to cold to drive with the top down. Either way it should be ready for spring.
These photos are actually from a couple of weeks ago. The doors, hood and trunk are being painted separately. After they are painted and installed the car will be ready to be buffed out. We've ordered all off the weatherstripping and seals and gaskets etc. After that it's off to the interior shop for new top, and upholstery. We're looking forward to having it done in time for spring.
We just ordered all of the weather striping, gaskets etc, we will need for the next step in the project, so things are moving forward. My Father-in-law is getting pretty excited about this one. Now if we could only get them to pick up the pace on his Mach 1.
