Now, I have been told that the first year for black plates with yellow letters/numbers in California was 62. Can anyone corroborate that?

By golly you’re onto something there Orthmann. The black plates were actually used from 1963 to 1969. I guess from what I read, the newest cars they were issued on were 1970 model year. Probably those made and sold in the fall of ‘69. I always look for the newest cars. Guess nothing newer than ‘60 showed up that day. Good catch!

Neat story from over at The Old Motor. There was discussion going on in the comments section about this street version of the GT-40 when a fellow chimed in with the following:

"The Ford GT 40 is a converted Mark I racing car. This photo was taken at Reynolds Ford’s truck facility in East Syracuse NY in 1969. The photographer was my father Robert Wood and the kids are my younger siblings (twins). I was away at college."

    Pretty neat!
Someone then asked if his siblings were still alive and if they turned out to be car enthusiasts. His reply:

"Both are alive and well. Sis drives a Subaru; Bro has a Mustang GT."

    How cool is that?

Gotta love 1969 fashion. I think my 1971 first grade class pic had a sweater over shirt motif.

Saw this at the local PnP; I assume it had a trans or electronics breakdown, and the owner couldn't afford to fix it. But what'd disheartening, is the @$$hat that smashed out windows, just because they're a d-bag.

Looks to be the Olds 307.

He or she probably shot them out through the fence. Otherwise, the windshield would have also gotten like treatment.

It’s a shame. I go to PnP all the time, and it amazes me the gratuitous damage people do to stuff. They’ll ruin a door to get a mirror or cut a complete front end through for a radiator. Sadly your local PnP doesn’t have the corner on D-Bags.

I once saw a Kaiser Jeep Grand Cherokee with the entire core support and grille center sawed out, just to remove an engine. And before the cutting, it was in great condition.

    I think that’s a cherokee. Cooler than a Wagoneer imo. Late 70’s??

I thought the "original" Cherokee was the two door and the Wagoneer was the four door?
Either way, that's a nice looking Jeep Andrew. I'd be happy to own one like that.
