Who would have thought Upstate New York can have hurricane force winds in March. Well today as I tried to get back home the road that had 17 utility poles come down last week after a 50/60 mph wind storm was closed again because the new poles they just finished installing were starting to lean. They brought in utility trucks to park next to the poles with their booms up holding the poles in place. Closer to home I had to drive around downed trees and town crews cleaning them off the road. At the corner of my street they are putting up a new building. The contractors construction trailer was laying on its side. As I pulled into my driveway I saw a piece of aluminum flashing from my house laying on the ground I then spotted one of my tall pine trees in the side yard uprooted and laying on the ground. I have 90+ pine trees on my property and since the ground is not frozen my biggest fear was that the wind could do this type of damage to them. For the next 3 hours we had winds that reached between 74 and 81 mph. I watched out the window as another tall pine slowly went down. Around dinner time the winds dropped to about 40 mph and I went out to check my back yard. One of my 50ft pines is now about 30ft as the top broke off and flew into my neighbors yard. I also had some trees along the fence line that came down on a shed and the old swing set my kids used to use. The rest of the yard is littered with branches and debris from other peoples yards. Looks like me and my chainsaw will be getting a workout tomorrow.
The good news is, all my cars are parked safely in the barn. DSC00665.JPG DSC00666.JPG DSC00667.JPG DSC00668.JPG DSC00669.JPG DSC00671.JPG DSC00672.JPG

I was also waiting to hear that someone or something had been fatally damaged. Good to hear it was just the trees that were damaged. Enjoy the work out. :)

We get high winds every once in a while here in Western Washington. Had a fellow high school graduate and her husband have to deal with a really old tree that was plain uprooted, ball and all, and dropped on the neighbors' fence, late in 2015. Not a house, no cars, just a fence.

Sorry about the damage. We had winds around 40 MPH yesterday as we went shoppng and I complained about that. :(We do have a row of tall pines along the west lot line some 200' long that I worry about now that it's been windy. Much of our wind comes out of the west here.
In Florida we had more pine trees get topped or break off than any other trees. About all I saw around central Illinois was lots of small branches, neighbor's garbage, and hundreds of empty garbage cans after trash day heading to different yards.

I never used to think about all the collector cars and other old vehicles over the years destroyed by bad weather. Just before Katrina we were camped south of New Orleans and went to many cruise inns. I saw lots of nice old cars in garages that I'm sure were destroyed.
All of this is another reason we gave up our five acre wooded lot in Florida. My wife is too old to be using a chain saw and tractor.;)

Nobody swings a hammer to a sixteen penny nail anymore. When Hurricane Andrew hit Florida all those years ago, so many houses blew apart in the winds--except any built by Habitat For Humanity, which are voluntarily required to be built with proven manual methods of construction.

So to bring this all around full circle and relate it to the car forum.... you got an idea from Henry ford who accomplished with his newfangled assembly lines quality AND quantities at a price every working man could afford being reduced to assembly line manufactured construction that disintegrates at the first inclement weather blocking traffic, which includes a large percentage of vehicles carrying the fomoco name! Does that make sense or is it a biiiig stretch/rant?
