Bud Royer describes his menu as “sophisticated comfort food.” It includes such delights as grilled pork tenderloin topped with peach and pepper glaze, crabmeat-and-shrimp-stuffed jalapeno peppers, a huge BLT sandwich made with grilled shrimp, and a boneless quail stuffed with cilantro-flavored grilled shrimp. Best of all are the pies, which are the best in Texas: big, beautiful, super-fruity and supersweet.

I have a few computer geek questions.
Been thinking awhile about getting a new computer tower. I know almost as much about computers as I do brain surgery and rocket science.
I have a new office chair to keep me fairly comfortable as I waste time on the computer.
I have a basic desk hidden between the living room sofa, a grandfather clock, and next to a window in the east wall of the living room. Behind me is a coat closet so I am safe, cozy, and can still look out the front picture window, keep an eye on my wife, or ask for necessities like beer and snacks.
Replaced the keyboard and dead mouse, both the wired type. For some reason my keyboard keys wear off the markings in about six months. Could be from sticky fingers while eating the snacks. Or cheap keyboards.
Also replaced the decent monitor with a much larger curved monitor, just because!
For many years I blamed satellite internet for my slow computer. Now that we moved north west I have cable. The computer is still slow and still freezes up. In fact it often says 100% CPU when doing little or nothing.
So with much thought and checking on line ads that keep coming in, I thought I narrowed down my tower choices to only a few. I'm trying to stay below $500 for tower only.
I have no idea what the different systems mean but was told I need at least a "7" with a bunch of RAM and Gigglybites.
I've had this computer over four years and according to the PI chart I haven't even used a piece of the pie. It seems to me it's the CPU I need more of.
Since I need Microsoft WORD to write love letters to my Russian GF on the porn sites I will have to probably buy that too.
New towers are like fruits, nuts, bags of things, and canned goods. The price only rises a little but the quantity and quality went way down. Still I only need the basics. I'm not a gamer and only need my e-mail, photo storage and my free photo editor programs, a maps and weather, WORDS, plus a few old car and motorcycle forums.

Question #2 or whatever. I have a list of BOOKMARKS or links to places like Station Wagon Forums and more. I've tried to copy and paste them to a folder. Is there a simple way to save the bookmarks for a new computer?

Also, I saved everything in this tower hard drive to an external hard drive. With luck I will be able to add it to the new hard drive of a new tower.

So far these are what I came up with. Staples in our town beats Wal*** by a long shot.
    HP 550-110
    HP 510-Po30
HP 510-Po26 No longer on sale.
The trouble is by the time I almost decide the one I want is off sale price and it makes a big difference. I have no idea if a core 3.. 5... or 7 is better or if a Dell may be better. I've had both models.
Most people I know now only use a laptop, tablet, Ipad, etc. In fact most use their Smartallic phones.

This is all I want on this thread for now. Please reply in a conversation or here.

I'm NOT a computer expert, so I'm not going to tell you what's wrong with your computer, but with your unit being so slow, I suspect there's something you are doing (or aren't doing) that's causing things to act like molasses. It might be worthwile to actually hire a computer expert for maybe a hour of his time to show you what the problem is. Pick his brain, so you will be able to take care of things yourself from now on. He might tell you stuff like defragmenting your hard drive, searching for malware, and putting some programs on 'standby' that are running unnecessarily in the background.

As a hint, you might want to message Blue Vista here. I hear he's a computer whiz.

BTW, do you know you're #1 on the post list?

Thanks Krash. I've repeatedly done those things. Mostly my RAM is low and my CPU usage is high. Like me, it's worn out from over use.:eek:Firefox hogs the operating system but I like it.

If I were in Florida I have a son who knows a little about computers and a friend that's a computer building geek. Up here my kids are busy and I'm too cheap to hire a stranger to play with my tower.
Between comparing computer towers in ads and a lot of help from CyberWizard my 4+ year old computer tower will be replaced as soon as the computer store sale begins. It's nice to be able to shop and compare on-line without anyone knowing I have no idea what I'm doing.
Maybe then I can post more often!

Still open to helpful hints. From what I've found out I need more RAMS and bigger cores so a core i7 seems the biggest. Bigger is better!:biglaugh:I sold my Dodge RAM.

I seem to always be on someone's list.

Man...the reason why the televisions cost that much back then were because of the cost of the picture tube. Nowadays, a flatscreen costs about the same, weighs 1/10th the weight, and is much larger than the largest screens of that time. The last console model 25" I had was a Curtis Mathes, and I had to use a hand truck to move it myself. How far we have come, technologically!

In 1970, we had an RCA console model, 25" and only 1 1/2 years old when the picture disappeared. This was the first and only time I ever witnessed a TV repairman make a house call. I remember when the guy told Dad the color gun was toast. As my older bro Tim told me years later, since it was out of warranty, it cost our parents a pretty penny for a new one.

I saw that, too. Which remind me--what's the status of your convertible?
