I think that's an early LaFrance chassis that tow truck's built on!

Great looking old Tow Truck!. I was thinking it would be fantastic to put a modern frame and running gear under it, but then I noticed the really short wheelbase (for a tow truck). Wouldn't be too practical for modern vehicles.

Actually, the LaFrance chassis is likely a 4-7 ton rig, so any of the Big Three short-wb trucks would definitely work.

I just went looking for any info on it, and I couldn't find anything that said this cab design was an American LaFrance, but it was a forward aero design prevalent in Art Deco in the 1930s.

Yes! Thank you very much for finding that! It's interesting it's an International, even though it looks a lot like a LaFrance.

I've seen that one before. The dumb SOB who built that just couldn't find a regular pickup with canopy, instead of ruining that panel truck?

That crappy panel truck may have had lots of rear quarter rust and wasn't worth much at the time. On the other hand the dumb SOB ruined a nice 55 Chevy.:tsk:
Which wasn't worth much back then either.

Yeah, but if everything survived, just about nothing would be worth anything.
