    It's a Bedford CA with Maltese local coachwork.

    Unfortunately not. It's a very old picture, too.
    Malta had a long history of coachbuilding, their famous bus fleet was made in a similar style.
    I got this postcard showing a few:

    They were still around when I visited early this century, but have now all been replaced with modern standard rubbish.

    That was very common in Europe. You could conveniently leave it open to easily hop in and out when you had frequent drop offs in towns.

    That looks like a cartoon version of a 71-96 fullsize GM van.

    It's a 69-86 Bedford CF, so the family resemblance is no surprise.
