I have no idea how we helped with that decision. But that's what we're here for! And it really does make sense.
Once you paint the wood, it won't be wood anymore. Sure it will make the room appear a bit larger, but the tradeoff isn't worth it IMHO. The buyer can paint or replace what they want after the sale. My little 1945 house: The kitchen is the same tongue and groove pine, painted white years before I came along, maybe always. I removed the layers and layers of paint from the window and door frames, and added the tin and the Mexican Saltillo tile floor.
Yup, weather it is walls, floors, fence, and a wagon Our house, the hall way has a stucco cove ceiling yet the walls are wood panel and not that cheap stuff. The lady who lived on our street (now moved) saw our house being built in 57 and was good friends with the original owners. She told us that the hall way walls and kitchen walls and cabinets were stained matching the hard wood floors and looked real nice. Don't know if it was the second or third owner but the walls got painted white. when ever the first kitchen reno happened, they gutted the kitchen to the studs and dry walled...... Ya can't go back! Exterior wood though I'm not a fan of stain, well at my house any way.... dogs would have my new stained fence scratched to crap Thompsons water seal is what I used for that.
Love your fireplace. You and my sister would get along very well. Earlier this summer she had a flood in her basement, all her groove and tongue pine was ruined. After alot of talking she is getting it put back in...oh yeah the first g&t she put in herself. That's my lil sis
We had what was called tongue and groove knotty pine in a room of our very first small house. I love that. The second larger house had original plastered walls over lathing. All white. I hated that and it was in 1964. I put up dark paneling. Later hated it because it made the living room and dining room too dark. But that was kinda okay when I worked nights and slept in daytime Now this mobile home, only our third place in 56 years, is all light paneling and looks 70's. To add to the wood look I ripped out the carpets and laid that new modern floating hardwood flooring. Looks like Abe Lincoln lives here. My last residence will probably be made of dark wood too!
In reality so will mine be a urine.............. Or Urn. What others do in it will be beyond my control! I've always thought a nice coffee can would do!
