I'm pretty late to the party here!!! just saw this!! I thought I remembered postes about this car before it got hit, so I remember the car (I liked how well it sat up!!) but didn't know it got hit until just finding this!! What I have I guess are follow up questions. Here it is over a year later. What has become of this specific car?? Did you get another clamshell replacement?? (I have not been here in a while so if there was another thread I do not know about it) and CAN/WILL you tell us how much you actually received from the other guys insurance carrier?? I think this is something many of us worry about and happens pretty often, get your car wrecked and not your fault and totally get screwed and get next to nothing for their car!! It's nice to hear you think they ended up giving you what you thought was fair and not have stuck to only the $800/$900 first offer!!!

They never would of gotten away with that 800-900. the adjuster knew that right off the bat. They were going to give me 225 for the car for scrap and they knew right off the bat they were NOT going to take the car. I bought it back for the 225. I would ask vetterman as his was in better condition (looks wise) than mine and appraised way higher. I didn't get what he did and his wasn't totaled at over 8000 in damage.
No I did not get a replacement. Every time I find one I like or can actually afford I contact the people and get screwed or some other bonehead sucks it up before I can. Then resells it for a hefty profit.

was Vettermans another clamshell?? I'll have to try and search to see if I can find another accident thread when I get a chance!
So what eventually became of your car?? Knowing myself if it was still roadworthy/safe I would have kept driving it!! I know with body damage it just wouldn't be up to par for some people but you had already done a lot of mechanical work to it so I'm sure it could have still lasted a long time!! Did it get parted and/or derbied?? If you are still interested in a clam shell I hope you find one!! And yes, you know they get snapped up pretty quickly!! But all it takes is just finding the right one at the right moment!! Not easy to do I know, but always "possible"!!!

Yes Vettermans was a 71 clam. You cannot legally drive a car on the road with a salvage title. they would NOT pay me without one. So I had to send in for one. Altho I did have to drive it a couple weeks that way before I got my 79 LTD out because of the poopy weather. Yes I want another one but I doubt I will get what I want. It got parted and will be derbied this summer. Sold it as a rolling shell. Sux tho I wanted to get a new one to transfer all the new parts(suspention) on to before it sold. That's the way it goes I guess. It would of taken way more money and time to fix it for the reconstructed title process than it was worth.

Shoot, I know what you mean about losing good new parts. I have no place off-street to do anything with cars, so when my bro's '90 Town Car sucked a couple valves, I stripped as much as I could get to without getting in trouble with the city. Had to leave the rebuilt AOD, the fuel pump and the front & rear brakes. Dad spent $1500 in parts on this car when we got it, plus all my free time doing all the work.

This last weekend, Dad was telling me about his Viet Nam experiences. One story was his Seabees were saddled up on a pair of decrepit 2 1/2 ton trucks that were used for everything, but the motor pool barely could keep one or the other running on a given day. Dad had, for a couple months, been sending in requisition after requisition trying to get a new 5-ton truck to replace both the crap rigs. Well, finally, they are granted one, and they go pick it up, and on the airfield they were on (Da Many Airbase), they parked the new truck between the crap trucks to protect it from enemy fire. NOPE. That night, the NVA attacked with rockets and mortars, and a mortar round fell and hit--you guessed it--the new 5-ton, obliterating it, while only scorching the paint on the two crap trucks!

ROFLMMFAO!!! Ins co called TODAY! In the discussion I was informed they would come and TAKE the car to their "Salvage area" and access the damage. I said ahhhhhhh NO your not taking anything ANYWHERE! (I work WITH a salvage yard every day!) She says " I don't think you know how this works", I explained YES I most certainly DO understand how it works and your not taking SHAT anywhere! LOL then she settles down ............... Think this one is gonna be fun!

It's hilarious when someone tells you something and you inform them that they're WRONG, and when they argue, you tell them why you know they're wrong, and they sometimes try to keep arguing or make an excuse as to why they've shut up.

So let me guess-- they want to offer you a pittance. It's an old car.

Assuming they give him ANYTHING. Even with full coverage they're likely to offer $1500 or less solely because it's "old" and "not worth anything" as I found out the fun way on my pride and joy...
