Slow slow quest for Fast fast Roadie !

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the leads again. Especially as it is a wood delete which is sort of "family imposed" since they aren't into the western country look I also like.

    Hi Silverfox,

I didn't know it was from California, they're selling it in New Jersey, maybe it's the proverbial hot potato?

You are quite right that I'm too impulsive, but that Grey car in Florida was a low miles wood delete in a rare color - even if it happened to have gotten water logged...

Now I'm at low ebb, slowly awaiting the real deal without really actively looking. Meanwhile I'm working at fixing my credit which was stupidly hit by a forgotten shirt purchase and my bills not being forwarded when I was overseas. That might be fixed in time for the day a real gem comes forth with a price a bit over budget.

Seeing your rides at WagonFest made me more demanding in terms of the general condition of a Roadie. They were all sparkling and gleeming in the lake reflexions bathed in sun and shade tree waves of soft light. Defintely not to place to leave a wagon junkie alone!

So I'll hold off until I find the right wood delete Roadmaster with vista roof and leather, or cloth which will be later swapped out. From what Silverfox explained I can then add the features as required from the towing pack if it isn't already installed, widening the pool of vehicles considered.

I've temporarily shut down the idea of a vintage muscle car, since even a very nice one would take more cash to tweak than a nice wagon would cost to buy.

Thanks to all for your encouragements, and enjoy your roaring rides!

Let me know if you have ruled out a Cappy wagon entirely.

    Hi Silverfox,

Thanks for asking - In a great wood delete color I'm ready to forsake the vista roof and upgrade to leather later, so a Chevy is nice too.

But the search is on the back burner now as the wagon hunt has kept me from a lot of other duties so I'll take a back seat unless something short of miraculous comes up... ;)

    Thx!

    Vic

I really like the color conbination on that one. Before looking at the pics, I was sorta expecting a blue leather interior.......

When does a guy get a vacation... from the Wagon quest?

    Hi Mike,

Call it fate, I'm leaving the country for 3 weeks tomorrow - can't say the timing is perfect...

I do much appreciate the link as this is as good a fit as I'm ever going to find. And in my favorite color to boot. I'm worried it will get pricey, as some tend to go for a lot at eBay, so we'll see. At least it's over 100k miles which might keep overzealous buyers rational.

Autocheck shows it being a New York City car until 2003 when it moved to Pennsylvania. Also it shows it having been registered as a TAXI which might have some bearing on its condition or real mileage - the last official odometer reading was 60k in 2003.

I'll be monitoring it though - thx. Vic.

perhaps the people whom owned it owned a liverey or taxi service and this was their personal car (its cheaper to register your POV with the rest of the fleet. ...if it were an actual taxi ...it would be in terrible condition. and have A LOT more miles. a taxi can rack up 60k in 1 year easy

Thanks Ian for suggesting that. The interior would be pretty shabby if it had been a cab, unless it was used only for occasional airport shuttle service. I was worried that it might have been a high mileage taxi prettied up with adopted junkyard gauges with lower miles. Thanks for the analysis.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the helpful advice here and with your PMs. I removed my bid from that blue eBay wagon due to its different color roof. It seems to have been a livery car, and probably got its speedometer swapped and might be a car on its second interior? These are durable cars so it may still be a good ride but not one to tangle with buying from overseas. I'll check some out when I get back in a couple of weeks, preferably a direct dealer or private seller to buyer contact without the time pressures or bidding wars.

    Best,

    Vic

    Hi Mike,

The blue one is my favorite color, but without leather and no miles indicated, it's abnormal for a mechanic owner to not post its mileage...

The white one is nice but has no announced price and pales in comparison to the black one which is "pristine". Too expensive for my current budget but I may contact them if it doesn't sell at reserve, which it may well exceed. In that oondtition I'll forget colors and flavors. Thanks for the leads.

I'll pass on the greenish one in the Carolina's they tacked 40 inch wheels under. ;)

Mystifying us with UNBELIEVABLY low mileage cars?

    Hi Mike,

Looking further into the seller of that Black Roadmaster has me wondering whether they aren't expert detailers who doctor mileage. He has quite a few very low miles cars from the 80's and 90's and I can't fathom how a dealership could get ahold of so many rareties all at the same time. When things look too good to be true, often they are.

    Here's one of his ads:

    http://www.bigmdirect.com/used/Merc...e5c.htm?backLink=/bargain-inventory/index.htm

Either this is an interesting source for gently used older cars, or there's something amiss. When you get a very low miles immaculate car and swap out the interior, it makes you wonder...

... to complete the illusion they say they repainted the roof due to HAY sitting on it in the farmer's barn... gimme a break!

    Cheers,

    Vic
