The plates are fantastic and they come with the car ! I have to check but I read somewhere that I may be able to display them on the car here in North Carolina once I have a proper vintage car reg. Pete
Certainly would be OK to 'display' the California plates on the car when you show it. Just switch them out when you hit the road. Those black-on-yellow plates are getting very rare. More common is the yellow-on-black plates that came out around '61 or so I believe (former Californian here...)
My 1960 Airstream was bought new off the lot in June of 1961 in Fresno where it lived 51 years and has the black and yellow plates. So I believe KK is correct on the date of the color change. I keep the plate for when I'm displaying the trailer at various vintage trailer meets but otherwise put it away so I'm not breaking any laws.
