OH DEAR---DEER! I've been very lucky. Son hit three when he had his El Camino. I believe the cheap plastic DEER WHISTLES work and help. I have them on everything. See many deer where we live. In fact if I'd got up earlier I'd probably seen a flock of them in the front yard and drive way.
Wouldn't it be terrible to hit a deer in my own driveway?
We live near a large game preserve and many other State and Federal places. Plus many wealthy northerners own hunting camps around here. Our very own neighbor has a blind within 30' of our front drive way so maybe I'm safe.
    Happy hunting!

I'm not sure here in Florida if it's the dumb deer or dumb bluehaired east coast drivers and northerners who are worse.

I'm starting to rethink those deer whistles...... all the car parts stores around here carry them. Must be a good reason. Can't afford another hit like the one in 2003 with the wife's Explorer - $4,500 in damage. If I hit a deer with the Safari, I'm gonna have big problems finding parts and replacing the woodgrain.

Sometimes those Deer Whistles can be found for just a few dollars. I think I got a bunch at swap meets for around one or two dollars. Sadly I just realized I'm out and the ones on my truck disappeared. They just peal and stick on but I usually try to find a small screw or something to stick them under.
Till I get more I'll have my wife hang her head out the window with her mouth wide opened. Should be enough incoming and exit air to do the job. :rofl2:

Sorry to hear you hit a deer...luckly here in sofla we don't have to deal with those problems...we have others ...like lack of yards big enough to store many projects and city people saying you can't have that stored here without current registration and insurance...good luck on fixing the car

I think I'm indestructible after all the crashes I've been in.

As for loss of habitat, I've hit 3 just since last June, and I live in a very rural area. Every time I've hit one they came out of nowhere, it's almost like they do it on purpose. Either that or they're incredibly stupid animals. They need reduced in numbers in these parts, I know one gal here that's hit 9 of them.

Get the whistles, and make sure they are in the airflow. They do help, and if a $2.00 whistle saves a crash, who cares what they look like? Better to keep the car intact! The other thing I've noticed is that different headlamps seem to attract them. The old non-halogens were quite bad. The normal halogen bulbs are better, but still not so very white. I put a set of the PIIA Ultra White bulbs in the Hella lamps of Nora, and much better vision, and a huge reduction in wild-life sightings of all kinds. Put a set of the whitest PIIA bulbs that would fit into Ma's 1990 Volvo, and again, wild-life sightings are way down. Better night vision, too. I'm wondering if it is something to do with the yellower lights attracting them, almost like they think car headlamps are the sun or something.

I guess deer whistles would look less obtrusive than a spiked deer guard.

    Hello guys!

Whisteling and deers remembers me a song...
do a deer, a female deer... und so weiter!

Are whistles really a good protection against derrs or wild animals? we do not have a lot of them in Switzerland, we have sometimes wild boar(pigs) or foxes.

    Bye

They are little plastic whistles that are tuned to a sound the dear can hear and don't like. It does tend to make them stay off the highway.

Ok! it's like ultra-sounds whistles for dogs! good idea instead of bumping into a deer! That's really bad for cars...

Home from the junkyard, finally found everything. For the 2 fenders, hood, header panel, bracket that holds header panel, and lights it came to $220. It's all ff the same car so it's all the same color, white. That won't look too shabby with the lighter blue my car seems to be. In a couple days I'll have time to tear into it, I'll be sure to post some pics. Can't wait to get the wagon into one piece again and looking good.

It's all coming together...well in the same place...it'll come together later. :)

I almost hide two deer last night, coming home from work. It was just three doors down the street. They ran out, I jammed on the brakes stopped about four feet from hitting them. :whew: That is as close as I have ever come to hitting anything. Hope it never gets any closer.
