Spent a few hours today getting the trim looking better! Looks a lot better than all that peeling stuff. It has seen school duty taking the kids in the morning and I got the exhaust fixed for $40. Morgan's teacher seen her get out the way back and told her how cool the wagon was and she said all the kids were asking her questions about it! My niece was over Thursday and loves it, she will be 3 in June and I had to drive her all over in it. I feel good about the repair now I put about 50 miles on it in the last 2 days. I think I will be driving it to and from work starting Monday when I go back.

Glad you got the wagon running as nice as it looks. Seems like everyone likes it. It's a wonder the teacher didn't say it was unsafe riding back there. At least Morgan has a cool teacher.

That would be my wife who pointed out it only has a lap belt. Bailey, my 16 year old, was tickled when she put the sun visor down and seen the light up mirror. She said she felt like a movie star putting her make up on going to school!:slap:
My poor redneck children have never seen a car with all those fancy options, I only had to wait until it was 22 years old before I could afford it! :D

Since you have a Caprice, you can make a mod, and put the lighted rear vanities from a Fleetwood in the back. Then she could put her makeup whether she is in the front or back. All you need is the under the headliner bracket and the two vanities with the wiring harness.

I have A/C today! Air wasn't cold and I noticed where lines go into compressor was damp and dirt sticking
to it. Hardest part was finding the seals. Got them changed and Mr. Walter my mentor at work vacuumed
it down, held a vacuum so we charged it up. It is blowing cold!

Love this thread. I found a similar red on red Roadmaster here locally, but can't reach the owner.

Not to threadjack, but anybody know if the earlier dash with tach can be retrofit into the later 94-9 cars?

Retrofit would not be the correct term. It would be difficult, because there are a lot of differences. It would require you to replace everything down to the support, and you would have to rewire the entire dash. Furthermore, you would have to change your door panels to match the contour of the dash where they meet. That means you would have to change the rear door panels to match the fronts. Since the color of the 91-93s is different than the 94-96 cars, you need to paint all of the panels to match. You would be better advised to get an A pillar cover with gauge pods, or mount a separate tach on the column or dash.

    Now, back to 1tireman's thread.

Spoke too soon. Got off Interstate coming home from work and it quit blowing cold. Wonder if maybe orfice tube is stopped up
from sitting. Think it sat mostly last couple years. I did put a little over 300 miles driving kids to school in the mornings and driving
it to work this week. I just have to watch I don't fall asleep on the drive home it's so comfortable! It also was about $25 cheaper
on gas then my V6 Toyota Tundra! I have not filled it up yet to check actual mileage but it is pretty good!
I burned in 3 days the same amount of gas I burned in one day when I drove my dad's Malibu to work!

Check with Rock Auto for AC parts. They are really cheap. rockauto.com

There are a lot of places that check AC for free, or a minimal charge. They can tell you what the issue is, and you can tell them you want to think about it for a couple of days when they hit you up for the repair.

Try disconnecting the battery and waiting a minute to reconnect. When you start the car again with the AC on it will count down, and reset. Then run the temp up and down to calibrate it.

    +1 on the rockauto advice.

Last summer I purchased an orifice tube, condenser and accumulator for a very reasonable amount and those items got the system back up and going before my summer road trips.

Thanks, Fred! That worked, I had no power to compressor, checked fuses
everything checked good. Reset like you said copressor kicked right on!

Had to edit this, everytime I use A/C when I turn car off then start it back
up I have to reset control head...can I assume control head bad? Don't know
so I am guessing but if anyone has experience chime in, I'm all ears!

I would have to trouble shoot it to tell you. If you need a replacement head unit, there is a 93 in the local yard. I would have to check for pricing and shipping. I am guessing about $50-60 for me to pull it and ship it.

Everytime I reset it, it works for a little while then it quits. The "F" for
Ferenheight (spelling?) flashes until I reset. I found one on ebay with
free shipping I may get. I appreciate the offer but may check the
local yard tomorrow as I am still gathering pieces parts for my '83
Caprice project. One things for sure I have gotten too old and fat
not to have my A/C. Everything else has been working beautifully and
have really enjoyed driving it all week to work.

Well I reset it again today to show my dad it will work and get cold just a matter of figuring out if it is the control head or not, has Freon, compressor cycles so we sat outside left it running 45 minutes and worked great. I turned A/C off before shutting off car, started back up put A/C on and it still worked but I will see if it works a little while longer.

Looks like it's a little slow at the shop here today so I am gonna buy one of the techs lunch and he is gonna change
my fuel filter, don't know when it was changed last and I have about 1000 miles on it since I changed the oil so I have
the stuff to change it again. I changed it after I got it home because it was black and previous owner wasn't driving it
much so it probably hadn't been changed in a long time. He had only put about 4 or 5000 miles in last 4 years he said.
It will also give me a chance to look and see if anything else needs any attention. With 75,000 miles I should have plenty
of miles left in her to enjoy!

I got another control head for my A/C but haven't had a chance to change it but noticed today it goes into the ECONOMY mode when driving and you can't switch it back to AUTO until you stop. Then the compressor kicks back on, very strange. Asked 3 different people got 3 different answers but since I got the control head I will change it since none of the 3 people I talked to about it said they really couldn't rule it out...think I will get the A/C guy at work to check it out again for me.

Took my mom to the grocery this morning in the wagon. It was her first ride in it and she giggled the whole time! :D
