Can't make out the theatre name in #554 but the movie is "The Man With the Golden Arm". Never seen it but think it stars Frank Sinatra.
That's one of the big reasons we relocated from northern Illinois to Tennessee. After I sold my business and my plow truck along with it, I had no desire to shovel as 200 foot long driveway or climb on a ladder to remove snow from the roof. Still, I've had to shovel my drive here a couple of times over the years. There is no snow removal equipment here. We just wait for the roads to melt.
That pic, and Jeremiah's reaction, reminded me of the stories Dad told of his first years living in Superior, WI, in the throes of the Great Depression. One he told, was in the Winter of '35/'36 (he'd just turned five that late November), and they had so much lake effect snow, that the back side of the house was drifted up to the roof! Dad was able to take his sled upstairs, go out his parent's window, and sled down the roof, across the alley, and into the empty block on the other side! Likely a good 3/4 to one full block's distance.
I've been watching the weather news up there and talking with family. It's always a spitshow every time it snows on the West side of the mountains because everyone forgets how to drive in it, and nobody can tell their bosses "NO" on going into work.
Oh, and the Cascade passes are at 280 or more inches, the first time this has happened in twenty years.
Yup. All four passes were closed over the weekend. First time in over 40 years. It's always a little humorous to see all of the news reports showing everything just north and south of Seattle grinding to a halt because of the snow.
