If you find a good 70s wagon with the 351 W or M under the hood, a solid 30 miles to the Imperial gallon is easily obtained. The biggest fuel sucker on them is the exhaust system. Upgrade that for about $700, and you gain a solid 5 mpg and 20 horsepower. If highway mileage is really important to you, the transmission can be changed to one from a late-80s F-150 pick up truck, and you will be really very surprised at how far you can go on a single tank. My brother had an 86 Grand Marquis Colony Park wagon, with the factory 351W and over drive. By the time he had it all set up, he could do 1,100 kms on a single 60 litre fill.
Nik thats a nice choice of wagoon. ...if anyone can spend your money...its us!! put yur belt on and enjoy the ride
nikshepor, can I call you nik for short? So glad you found your way here! I am in the same boat as you, love my car but little about the mechancial side of things. My Beaumont has always been my favorite body style and I didn't know it came in a wagon. When I found I, like you , just had to have her. We, mostly hubby, have been chipping away, fixing and replacing all the mechanical parts, right know we are waiting for the body shop to give us THE call to bring her in....it's so exciting I can hardly wait for you to get your wagon so we can compare resto's. It's awesome to have you join us...happy shopping. Oh by the way, your friends are still going to tease you about loving wagons, but wait until you start getting calls to haul something or take all the kids somewhere. They will probably never admit how cool your wagon is but your new friends already know it.
