I'm a Zorro fanatic. One day I walked into a corner mom-and-pop video store that was selling old flicks and they had a repro set of the 1958 series of Zorro Rides Again. Not as good as the swash buckling, sword version from 1955, but fun. Supposedly this newer Black and White Zorro series was made when cars were running with horses still in use in California. Some look like 1928 model A's and there's a nice 1931-ish Ford convertible - the only two cars in the series. No horns on the cars though.

Don't know why Barris got Wayne to go for the horns. John Wayne did a lot more roles than his cowboy stint, and never shot himself in the foot.:tiphat:

    What a monstrosity.....
Reading the ad copy, it seems this wagon has been around the block, and quite possibly not kept as The Duke drove it himself. Why would Wayne put his name in large block letters on the fender? I recall seeing another 'John Wayne' wagon - an earlier version - and was pretty much stock except for a raised roof and some suede upholstery on the inside.

Personally, I think this vehicle was done more as a 'show car' to display, rather than one that the star actually used. I doubt Wayne drove it much at all.......

According to the listing it only has 3600 miles on it, so you're right, KK, the Duke hardly ever drove it. Quite frankly, if it was mine, I'd have hardly ever driven it either for fear someone I knew would see me in it. I think the VC roof installation is not done very well at all. Certainly isn't up to other Barris customs.

I posted this over on the Vista Cruiser site under the title... "Worst Use of a Vista Roof-EVER" I'd rather see one glued onto a van.

IIRC - he was on the USC football team. I believe the nickname originated there, but I don't remember how......

What I heard on a TV biography was that he had a dog named Duke and he would wonder around town. People knew the dogs name but not his and called him little Duke. I guess it's better than Marion.
