Congrats Fannie! What a great find and very impressive the work you have accomplished so far. It's looking great as you breathe new life into that old house. Looking forward to seeing more pics as things move along.
My shoulder and neck are tired and sore. It's been a very productive weekend. My goal for Saturday was to paint trhe foundation, and I did. I also removed(by hand) all the weeds growing around the house. At one point I was right under the oil tank trying to reach the wall to paint LOL I was just glad no one came in the driveway at that point...my butt stiking out from under there. I'm having a blast. Today I cleaned the oven and I primed the down stairs hall and the stair well and the up stairs hall. During all of the reno I have made a very good friend... a girls best friend
Actually we had discussed a garage. I thought we could park Lil Sis in there for the winter, but not enough funds left .
I bought a Rain-X extra large, car cover and between Oct. and May the thing disintegrated. Every place it touched an edge, you could touch it and it would just fall apart. Harbor Freight had their 10x17 portable garages on sale and I had a 10% coupon too. So far it's working out well and has held up during some pretty heavy thunderstorms with high winds.
I've been thinking about getting one of those portable garages and storing Lil Sis in there for the winter...but I don't know???
Hubby took the wall down between the living and diningrooms, the change is amazing... In this last picture you can see where hubby changed the diningroom window a couple of weeks ago.
Wow! Fannie this is great. You were looking for a possible retirement home right when we bought our little house back in Illinois. But we don't have a lake with a view, an upstairs, or a neat old house. Ours is only 55 years old but still needs some painting and yard work. When you finish your little project we'll buy your gas to come down to central Illinois to paint and decorate our yard. We love the colors and what you are doing to the house.
Quite a few years ago I ran outta garage. I bought two of those Horrible Fart vinyl carports 10X20 and set them side by side in front of the regular garage on the cement apron. I stuck PVC pipe in cement blocks and filled the blocks with concrete. Dropped the poles in the PVC pipe stubs and bolted them to the PVC pipes. Then added ropes and stakes on each pole. They last maybe three years before the sun rots the covers which I replace with new ones. Mine were around $99 on sale or $129 regular price. Oldest son's wife bought a 20X40 vinyl enclosed party room for their adopted daughter's birthday on 27th. They set it on cement with no anchors of any kind. Two days after the b'day party a wind came up, lifted the party room, moved it maybe 50', tore a large hole in it, and bent many poles. Son has no idea what that large room cost and didn't have time to take it down after the party. I'm thinking several thousand wasted. The weather was great for the party so they didn't need the room. Anything like that needs anchored down and the vinyl only lasts a few years in the sun. I'd think a 20X20 metal carport for under $1000 would be a better value, also anchored down.
We love that old farm house. Looks like a great view. All we have at our retirement home #2 is a row of large pine trees, a corn field and some small houses across the street. The bush at left front and the one at the front door are gone and there is now a gravel 20' wide driveway temporarily straight out where the bush was. Plus the pine tree has been trimmed even with the roof. I want to get stone or brick along the front below the picture window and I hate white aluminum siding. It's small but that's what downsizing is all about. Right now the yard is full of 4-year old's toys and dog toys!
I think your new house is sweet. It looks like it would be big enough to bang around in. Our little house is only 19x26 and that includes both porches. It shows bigger in the pictures. A corn field and a few pine trees are a nice few too. Wait till you get some snow on those trees they'll be beautiful.
