i will say there is something fishy about the boneyard photos. does anyone else think that its a little odd that they would be scrapping 85-89 model year oldsmobiles that dont look like they are totalled? (look very closely at the pictures @ the end of the article....particularly the dash shot. look through the windshield.

That is an '85 Cutlass Calais...they were junk from the get-go!

Actually, that is the tow truck in front, and the Oldmobiles are in a lot, as visible in the top pic.

I could give a rip about this battleship of a hearse, I want to know the fate of the nice Torino Squire next to it!

    David :)

Thanks David. I'm hoping for at least 3 or even heck, a few bucks more :D

It's a fun driver, but, as you so kindly suggest, maybe I should be happy with 2 and be done with it?

I've got several folks who keep after me to sell it so one of these days I may take one of them up on their offer. I just can't help but equate that in to $ signs for some reason. But it isn't going anywhere until we put a bunch more miles on it. I'd like to be the one to turn the speedo to 50K at least. Too much sweat in putting it together to just let it go without us having some fun. For sure it is going back to our old home town for their car show this summer, before we blow it away.

"How about the collectability of a back hoe that likely dug the hole in the ground for the casket?"
Offered at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 21012....with actual soil from the hole dug that solemn day

Just remember, Jim, you suggested it!

Just an observation, but as I remember when I was in the military in the late 60s, I had a military drivers license and drove several different vehicles. As best I remember, all were radio delete. This ambulance has a factory radio.

Nope. What looks like 'radio' controls are actually the HVAC controls. If it had a radio, it would look like it had two radios. The '63 and '64 big Pontiacs were both like this.......

The pre auction pictures of the car show a definate differance in the tone of the paint from the front fender to the door on the right side. There is no doubt that this car had some paint / body work done on it, because after a few years of service, it would certainly have some nicks and dents in it. It was preseneted as an unrestored car, which I find very hard to believe.

They also never confirmed that the Navy tag on the dash was the original tag.

The hearse that carried Elvis to his grave, was destroyed as the result of an engine fire while being driven to Florida to go to another funeral home. That car is gone forever.

JFK went to Parkland Medical in the limousine that he was riding in, not the 1962 Ford Amblewagon ambulance. That vehicle carried Lee Harvey Oswald when he was shot. There is a car is in a museum that is claimed to be that car, however, when you look at the original pictures shot that day, and look at the picture in the museum, you can clearly see that it has a different siren. It might just be as simple as the original siren was removed and put on another car, or it could be a different car. I have no knowledge about the car, since I haven't looked into its history.
