Is a Pacer a wagon?

I agree, Taranau....AM was a much better company than people realized. The big three had to knock them with rumors because they were worried by them. As Rev so aptly put it...I'm a closet AMC guy too. And whatever you want to call the Pacer...it was a cool little car. As were many other of the AMC's.

 

I am with you guys, I am a AMC lover, I loved my 84 Eagle sedan. It was a beast 4x4 offroad, but the cancer was starting to take hold. There is a guy in Corry, PA that has a Spirit Hatchback with a 350 Chevy 4 speed and a Pacer with a 401 AMC auto they are both sleepers to an extent. And talk about FAST!

I like the under dog AMCs. I wish I could justify the purchase of a Ambassador wagon on my island rite now

Back to the Pacer subject......Were'nt the Pacers 'supposed' to have a rotary engine in them that AMC gave hords of $$ to GM for development and in the end GM screwed them over and the good ol inline six was used?
I'm sure this is true, any AMC guys know any details about this?

 

Yeah, Fat....I remember something along those lines. I thought AMC was building their own and it wasn't ready in time or something like that. I think they then went to GM and made a deal and then GM screwed them somehow....don't remember all the details. LOL...AMC should have known better...the big three were already sweating a little because of AMC's engineering and design capabilities. AMC may have given GM a way to submarine them financially on this deal.
