I thought about the invertor, player idea. I have a small invertor I use in my work car, that might work. I might have to try that. Still liking a removeable console idea with the speakers built into it so I can use my cd player with remote. I like Harry's idea with the mini console. That would be sweet if I could find a maroon to match my interior. Otherwise I am leaning towards building my own box. Thanks for all the input guys, this is great information

What about the ashtray spot? As I recall that era Buick's ashtray held about a cubic yard.

Where does heat flow? I've been working on similar designs for a while but maintaining flow from heater discharge to floor is obstacle.

In my car the discharge shoot is bolted on at the bottom. I removed the lower section, got an extra one and modified it so it discharges to the side and reinstalled the modified one. The air now discharges to the left and right side just above the console. And if I ever want to go back to original all I have to do is unbolt the "modified" discharge shoot and reinstall the original one.

    Where are speakers?
I like the fit! You have matched the curvature of the hump perfectly!

I have 6 inch round speakers that I made speaker boxes for. They are mounted on the left and right side under the dash and cannot be seen. I originally wanted to have it all contained but it just did not look right and was to big and bulky. I have it built so I can unplug the antenna, the radio harness and remove the console and no one will ever know it was there. So when I go to car shows I can remove it and my car will look "stock" besides the wheels. I used L brackets to mount the speaker boxes and used existing holes so I wouldn't have to modify anything. It's not a "thumping" system but it sounds good enuff for me and I can use my Ipod to listen to my style of music, or use the AM/FM radio.

I bought another generic antenna and its two sided taped under the dash. I can still use the factory AM radio as it is hooked up, and unmolested.
