...I would LOVE to bring this one back. I just LOVE the look of this 55! I could see this one with a 455 in it, the rest done to factory specs and rebuild the original engine for a future matching numbers car. Another thing I like is the total upfront honesty of the pix in the ad. And I like all the parts that come with it. Ohh to be young again....I don't like project cars but I would like this project. Love the look of this wagon a lot. BTW...look at that DASH!

That was never sold in Canada! A Nomad Pontiac??? Never! That is one rare car.

 

Right, Norm...I don't remember ever seeing one of these when I was a kid. The guy says it's one of 3,760 built. I guess that explains the price that I felt was high. Maybe it isn't high? I sure do like it. I would sure like to bring it back.

 

Yeah, back to new and back to Wisconsin! Lots of parts for those still available. I can imagine how you feel. Look up the Latin root of the word 'decide'. I do whenever I'm caught with a choice like that.

 

There's a few of those around, bringing big bucks if restored (but not quite as much as a comparable Nomad). They offered them for the same 3 years as the Nomad (55-57), but had all the Pontiac running gear.

IMO, the Nomads look quite a bit better. Too much chrome on the Safari. ( I know - late 50's was the chrome age........)

Check around - I think I saw a restored restomod Safari for sale recently as well. Think it was going for around $80k.

I think I like the Pontiac version more, especially at the taillights and rear fender treatment. Heck, even parked either one looks like its a rocket launcher! But maybe its because I've never seen one like it, I do like it more.

Restoring the green one would be fun. Up here, the wagon would rule the show circuit, for sure.

 

I have to agree with Norman,you can find Chevy Nomads with no problems,but other models in the GM line is a different cat all together

 

speaking of nomads...did anyone watch the mecum auction sunday morning on speed channel?

there was a 55 nomad that went through (i think it was a nomad) that had an all chrome LS6 under the hood! bidding started at i think somewhere between 60 and 80 grand. beautiful resto-mod.

 

Sorry A1...hijack later. Yes guys...I like this much better than the Chevy Nomad. This is a 50's rig and I LOVE the chrome and yes it DOES look like it's racing when parked. I just don't have the time to do this car right. Not to mention the price, work and subsequent money it would take. I know I'd sure LIKE to do it up though!

Well, it remains to be seen whether it's actually worth $80k. Saw a '56 Bel Air 2-door at the Good Guys show (all done up - lots of $$ spent on it) where the owner was asking $140k for it. Looked to me more like $50k. I guess there's people out there with really big bux that don't blink an eye at spending that kind of money....unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

 

Yeah, well....there's lots of guys that chum the waters and see if anything bites. I think 7K for this wagon in it's present shape is a good plenty too. I love it but 7K on top of the rest of the BIG bucks you'd have to put into it plus the labor....maybe it WOULD reach 80K!?

 

The seller of this cool wagon lowered the reserve and it was hit at 5K. Couple more hours to go yet. I guess he knows what he has. Might even get close to that 7K mark.
